View Full Version : Which Fuel Management System? Autopilot?
Bubblejunkie 06-09-2008, 07:26 PM For 05 225 Suzuki 4 stroke We want to see what we use at different speeds and what the totals are for a day trip. I know nothing about them and dont want a junk system. Thanks alot
Also going to get an autpilot, which one? 232 Sportcraft with above mentioned motor.
KEYSKILLER 06-09-2008, 07:34 PM iam sure suzuki has some sort of fuel monitor system like "smartcraft".
if not go to www.floscan.com
Bottom Dweller 06-09-2008, 09:04 PM I am partial to the TR-1 Gladiator auto pilot due to no rudder feed back unit and the fact it is so easy to set up/use. A little pricey though. I think Mike W. has a Navman fuel monitor on his Proline that works pretty good and is quite a bit less than Floscan. I had a flowscan on a single engine boat years ago and it worked great and was easy to install myself.

NorthStar sells one that will give trip total, gph,and the usual stuff.
It is smallish and the guage doesn't take up much space.
I paid $99 for mine at Boaters World.
chuckd 06-09-2008, 10:36 PM I love my TR1, now owned by Garmin.
The Collector 06-10-2008, 12:46 AM I hear nothing but good stuff about the TR1, but Bottom Dweller's runs slalom courses every so often? I have a Furuno AP hooked into my Nav-net. I personally like to set multi point courses or pick a waypoint on the gps and tell the AP to go there so integration is important to me. What plotter do you have?
Call Chris Hill for a price on a Navman, he might be able to hook you up.
The AP as well now that I think about it.
fishbuster 06-10-2008, 01:12 AM ive got a navman 210 on my boat and its nice esp for the price(around the $100 range) whereas the flowscan is like 4 or more times than that. about the only downfall to the navman is you have to calculate the mph since it only show gph but it honestly isnt bad(mph divided by gph) also heard great things about the tr1

Not sure which model I have, but my navman gives 2 readings at a time: i set it to speed and nmpg. I can do gph on either motor or both and can't remember what else.

The only reason BD's does that is because he is too lazy to set it up. Mine is great, does not run slalom courses, tied to the GPS, etc....

Spearchucker's autopilot works great, better than the ones he had on his previous two boats.

Exactly! It only does it at 40mph in following seas. I have never slowed down the unit to turn the motors slower, so she fish tales a bit.

Actually i just looked at my unit and remembered that navman was bought out by northstar alittle while ago. ya ive got the northstar explorer f210 ive got a spare laying around if you want to try it out for alittle while. its pretty easy to intall. cut your fuel line, install the transducer and put in the digital gauge and then plug in one wire.

Griswold 06-10-2008, 04:40 PM I also vote for an autopilot tied into the nav system. The one in my boat isn't and it's O.K, but after riding in a friends boat with one tied to the nav system, I certainly wouldn't buy a new one without that option.
Rigdvr 06-10-2008, 06:36 PM Ive got a simrad tied into a furuno nav net system and it works fine. Sure makes life easy sometimes!
Keith8h 06-24-2008, 01:32 PM Before you install an autopilot, you need to realize that like Weinhard, you might forget how to steer a boat.
