Does anybody know where to get a pair of the "old" style Igloo Cooler Hinges?

The "old" style is like a real hinge with a pin that the two parts rotate on. The "new" style is a piece of plastic that flexes back and forth. The "new" style looks unreliable to me :scratchhead:

If you can't find the hinges locally, you might try eBay or Igloo customer service at 800-364-5566. I've bought cooler parts directly from them before.

Replace them with metal hinges with thru bolts. Then you won't have to worry about breaking them again.

I bought some at West Marine about 6 mos ago. I'm sure they still have them. They have the clasp to keep them closed too.

What he said. The replacment hinges are the same crap as the original. They don't give 'em away, either.

Kite, I tried ebay and igloo.com and was surprised to see they have obsoleted the old style hinges.

Marcus/LC, metal hinges makes a lot better sense. Sometimes we all need somebody to point out the obvious to us :slap:

Same goes w/ the handles. Just thru bolt them when they start to pull the screws out.

I'm sure Igloo is making some very good profits selling replacement hardware for thier coolers. They probably designed that way on purpose.

I think you are right about that! I'm sure that's why they changed their design - most people buy a new one if something breaks.

This cooler is over 5 years old, but looks brand new. The old hinges weren't too bad, but couldn't hold up to the drop test from the gunwale of a trailer boat in the driveway with the lid open. I see SS hinges in my future.:toast:

Use a piece of nylon webbing like what your weight belt is made of. lasts forever. mark

I just threw one away yesterday, which the only good thing left on it was the hinges. I'll see if it's till there today. I took all the handles off, and the only thing I left on it was the hinges. If I save them I'll send em too you for a beer. It's a 94 Igloo Marine. Has three hinges I think. I think ones broke though.

I have 2 129 Igloos and the hinges and clasps have gone to hinge hell a while ago. I purchased 2 150 gt Rubbermaids at Sams for $60 each. Real pinned hinges and clasps, and molded in handles that cant break, plus they seem to hold ice longer too. When in the past, I have had those wimpy plastic hinges break, I either cut a milk jug and put it under the broken hinge, or as someone said used nylon webbing. Just find a junked car and cut out the seatbelts-at a you-pull-it place is good to find that.
