Can anyone comment on either the 1 or 2 stiffness? I am torn between which way to go. Currently using Omer Rekkord 3 carbons and older Picasso carbons. Any info would be appreciated

I sell the Mat Mas blades and usually suggest the #2 stiffness, however there are a few different variables that go into the decision of what is best for you personally.

1. What do you weigh and how tall are you?
2. Are you a young, strong swimmer with strong lags?
3. How deep are you diving?
4. What thickness is your wetsuit and how much lead are you using?
5. Are you diving for long times (2-3 hours straight)?

Your answers to these questions should point to which blade stiffness you show choose.

Jim,

I am about 5'7" 145 lbs. I normally dive the gulf of mexico off of the panhandle. Depths are anywhere from 45-80 typically but every now and then we hit a wreck or tower in 100-110. Mainly looking for a deep freediving fin that is more durable than carbon i.e. don't want to crack one on a deep drop. I have heard that the #1 is pretty stiff and the #2 is extremely stiff. We normally don't have ripping currents. Do you know how the Omer Rekkords compare to either of the Mat-mas? I would guess that they are probably similar to the 1's. I don't find the Rekkords to be a stiff as my Picasso carbons. Thanks for your help,

:)forgot the wetsuit and weight questions. Usually dive either rash guard and board shorts with 4 lbs, 1.5 omer Dahlak with 5 or 6 pounds, or 3 mil with 7 or 8 pounds. We usually are in the water 1-2 hours at a time then move and do it again. I do consider myself a fairly strong swimmer.

I think this may be an easy one, since you're a floridian freediving a 3mm suit at the most (I would guess with about 8lbs of lead) and weigh in at 145, the #1 blades will work great.

:)

Edit: Added a pic of a blue camo Mat Mas blade which is available in all black as well.
