Keith8h 06-18-2008, 10:10 AM Teh, I'm sure that you wouldn't be allowed anywhere near it. There is a spot called "The LOOP" off the coast of Louisiana. It is the place that oil tankers tie up to offload when coming from the Middle East. A good chunk of the US's oil comes through there. Let me tell you, the boys on LOOP radar do not fool around. They start warning you a couple of miles out. If you keep coming, they send out a Whaler with a bow mount 50 cal. They are very serious about protecting that place. LGN is horribly explosive, so I doubt they would allow a private boat within two miles of that place. It's a shame, cause there is some good bottom out there. JLittle44 06-18-2008, 11:30 AM They just finished an LNG plant on Quitnana which is just across the ship channel from Surfside. Last weekend, Dad was drifting and fishing like we've done for years and a boat very similar to that one hauled ass right for him. Aparently now there is a $32,000 fine for going inside the barrier they've set up. There are two little signs (that he didn't see) marking the area. It used to be one of our favorite inshore spots for drifting. They just gave him a warning, but somebody soon is gonna get nabbed with that $32K. |
