Went out with SilentKiller (needed it after 2x 16 hour days) for a late start out of Harker's Island. He had some numbers he wanted to play with and look around for related structure. We did 3 drops on some of the most beautiful bottom I've ever seen. Lots of relief. On the first drop, the fish were dumb and bountiful. By the third drop in the area (not the same spot), they were gone. They must have sent out an APB. I did find a big lobster way North- a couple miles north of the sub- but all I brought back from him was an antenna.

Speaking of the sub, SilentKiller had never dove it, so we motored over and tried to find it using the public number. No luck. Anyone got the real number for it?

Anyway, we limited out on gags, pick up a couple of snapper, sheepshead, etc. No pictures on the boat because of my flooded camera.

What sucked about the trip was getting a speeding ticket on the way home. Thing is- I wasn't really going that fast- I think the cop was after someone else. Sucks. SUCKS! Anyone know a lawyer in Craven County- I'm thinking of fighting it.

Sounds like a conspiracy to me -- PETA, Greenpeace, and the National Marine Fisheries Board have infultrated the NC Troopers and are targeting anyone who is headed home after harvesting their huge quota of 2 gags. As if having to take time off work, deal with boat maintenance issues, drive 6 hours round trip and pay 4 bucks a gallon while getting 2 mpg, they figure a nice fat speeding ticket will be enough to keep the spearos home and eat tofu and veggie burgers on the 4th.

Yeah, those public #'s are crap. I wasted the better part of two hours looking for it last year. Were you guys in a white cuddy cabin by chance?

Yeah- we were- were you out there too? At the sub we were pretty much alone, but there were a lot of boats around Big/Little 10.

Yep, saw a couple of spearo-types launching and it may have been you guys. Was one of the Big 10 boats. Drew the short straw at the office and had to take the boss and his kid out fishing. Made the mistake of going out the next day too and it was a real circus!

I am pretty sure I have the sub numbers in my handheld. I dove the sub for my AOW checkouts a few years back and have not had the desire to see it again. It is not very big and has maybe 12' of relief, so I bet it is hard to mark.

At any rate, get out there early on any summer morning and there will be a dive boat there.
