Finally got to go out and do some spearfishing yesterday. We went to the Matagorda Ship channel jettys. I was solo diving and staying shallow since I dont have a stringer that would work easily for spearing. I had about 15 feet of vis amazingly enuff in the jettys themself, and was able to get five sheephead from 14 3/4 inches to 18 1/2 inches. I saw many many more as well as lots of spade fish and even a snook. My deepest dive yesterday was 12 feet and since the fish were so plentiful I was only down for a couple minutes. I went down about 6 or eight times for a total of a little over an hour. There was a lot of Sargasum weed so we had a couple overheating problems when we were running out but it was an easy problem to deal with. The current was also fairly strong but I was able to find a nice pocket in the jettys were the current was none existant, so I didnt have to surface swim far to get into the rocks to look around. Im hoping I can hook up with some others that may wanna try spearing at the Matagorda Ship channel jettys. I have a 21 Kenner with a 140 Tohatsu that I can use, or I am willing to split gas and ice with anybody that has a boat and may wanna come down and do a little spearing out there.
