Myself, Jay (Stranglehold), 3 locals from Pinellas John, Mary, Greg, and 3 from Mrytle Beach chartered the Playmate out of Stock Island for a 4 day spearing and bugging trip to the Tortugas. It was a good trip with 40-80ft viz almost calm seas and a box full of fish and lobsters. Almost everyone limited on lobsters. Grouper were hard to come by, several large blacks were spotted, shot at and missed or fish bugged out before shot could be taken, except for one if Jay cares to explain. Greg got a nice 10lb hog, Jay was lobster king filling his limit before anyone else, the whole group with fish and lobster from one drop, and me with the captain.

jojo's a good captain also, just not quite as photo friendly as Nicola. He just came back from a trip when we were boarding.

Aside from the restricted fishing areas in the tortugas, can you spearfish anywhere?

Sounds like a wonderful trip with some good friends. I had been hearing stories from John about how many fish he has slain, but now there is photographic proof. Same with Jay. I was under the impression that Mary was the slayer. Waiting to see you for some more details. Good job.

I dont know the area that well, but I think you can. I know we would go close to the boundary sometimes but be very careful about not entering into it. The captain told the guest when we were close not to go in a certain direction because that would get you into the area and if you did end up in there you would have to swim out to get picked up.
