Hello everyone,

Thought I would make my first trip report. I guess it's about time, been diving and spearfishing here for 20 years and never took any pictures of my catch before.

Went out on first day of mini season and could not believe it. There was a boat on every one of my coral heads out in front of the beach on ocean side and this was 6:00 in the morning.

Went to a few less desirable spots and there were no fish or lobster to be seen. not even shorts.

I didn't want to spend the whole day fighting the hordes so I came back in skunked. Felt like shit.

This morning I got out early and no boats around, got my limit and a 21 inch red grouper and was back by 9:00 AM.

It is really sad to see how much this place has gone down hill since I came here, up until about 10 years ago I could go out any time I felt like it and get lobster or grouper or hogfish within a mile of the Sisters Creek entrance.

The heads are still there but the fish and lobster sure ain't, the place is starting to look like a desert. It is depressing.

Nice bonus red... and haul of 'tails. Shame about your early misfortune, I feel the same way. Although, heads could've looked desert-esque if you went out the day after opening day, I'm sure the fish and bugs took a serious hit and didn't replenish overnight.

You are right about the place getting wiped out on opening day and the days leading up to it, but I have watched a real decline in the amount of life near shore.

My old dive buddy Jerry Kerns, who is 80 now, has told me how it was 35 years ago.

We would be diving a spot, I'm talking 10 years ago, and he would say that he was diving this spot and the schools of snapper and grunts were so thick that you couldn't see the bottom in 15 feet and the shimmering schools of fish would give you vertigo laying on the surface looking for the head.

Sure ain't like that now.
