Hello, I want to do some spearfishing but have no clue as to what gun and setup for it would be best for my needs. I have read quite a few forums but most on this topic is directed to people who already know a little about spearfishing and I am completely new to it.

I live in south Louisiana and would like to know what would be a good setup for me in this area. I read another forum about catfish and seems most people prefer pneumatic guns for this and there was a couple of post about different spear heads and shafts. I didn't quite understand about how to go about this. Also I don't want to be limited to catfish and would like a gun that will grow with me. Are most shafts compatible with most spear guns of same length and diameter or is the trigger mechanisms different what about tips?

post this in your local section (Louisiana??) and the city you live in. Then someone will respond with a spearfishing friendly dive shop near you. Go there and let them help you with your needs. Thats really the best way to get the right set up for your area.
Or hook up with some guys in your area and learn from them. Someone may let you go out with them and borrow a gun for a dive or two.
