Hello to the Planet! I have a 48 Sea Hornet and I have a question. I bought the gun used and it had one line shaft rigged on it. After ordering a couple extra shafts from Biller, I am not sure the shaft that was on it was correct. It had two notches and the back one, when loaded, was really close to the "housing" that it locks into. That made it one POS to pull the second band and get the wishbone(steel) to lock in. So, the only times I used the gun I would use just one band. The new shafts have 3 spots for bands and the front two work great for loading. The problem comes in that when there are two bands pulled, the safety won't turn to "fire" position. Take one band loose, and it will turn freely back and forth. I guess I am looking at a problem with the internal parts, wear or damage. Can this be fixed? Or should I not worry about it and leave it in "fire" before pulling the bands?

I would call Kevin at Spearfishing Specialties at 727.323.7686. He is the Sea Hornet distributor and can get you squared away.

Just take the safety off of the gun entirely, it will do nothing but cost you nice fish. If you follow basic gun safety, don't point it at people, don't load it in the boat (PERIOD!) then you don't need the safety.

Your stock shaft is right, I've seen alot of Biller shafts like that with notches less than an inch in front of the trigger mech.

Welcome to the planet Ben. Ya'll be nice to this guy. He's a newbie spearfisherman to SC. I have yet to get a ride on his rig, he's a little snootie in that fashion. Mybe some day.

PS......What's a safety?

Sounds like the safety knob is stripped out and it is rotating on the D spindle. Its an easy fix................give me a call and I'll send you a safety knob, no charge.

Ha Ha Les, I wish I could take my rig out! I had to cut the conversation short this morning with the "mechanic" to keep from cussing his butt out. If it wasn't for your generosity, I probably would not have gone yet this summer.

As to the safety, it works fine until the extra pressure of the second band is placed on it, then it will not turn. I guess I won't worry about it too much, since I can't use it for anything.
Thanks guys!

If this is the case, I highly recommend that you send me the gun and let me take a look at it before you use it.

I am a complete noob, and now have to say sorry. I thought, I don't know why, that Sea Hornet was a model that Biller makes. I am very sorry for that misunderstanding. I have a Biller, not a Sea Hornet. Again, I am sorry for the lack of knowledge on my part. :slap: Please don't ban me, I'll be stupid forever....

If your gun has a guard/enclosed grip, it is a Biller. If it has an open grip, it is a Sea Hornet. If it is a Biller, I suggest you return it to them as they are very good about the warranties on their triggers. They will likely replace it for free if it has not been abused.

Now I know where the confusion came from. The plastic muzzle says Sea Hornet, there is a Biller emblem in the wood, and then it says Sea Hornet on the handle, trigger plastic part. So, what does all this mean?? I think I have figured out what the problem with the second band has been. It appears there is a slight "cut" in the steel wishbone that likely only goes one way to "lock" into the shaft, is this correct? If so, one band is one way and the other is opposite, I think one or the other is wrong. Also, for whatever reason, the bands are different diameters, one 9/16 the other 5/8. I think this would cause an issue as well. The 9/16 was first and 5/8 was second pull.

You have a Biller Limited, nice gun. Your right about the wishbones, they have been relieved so as to lock into the shaft better, just remove the band from the gun muzzle and re-insert w/relieved side up.
As for the safety.. I agree, what’s a safety?
PS;
Welcome to Spearfishing Planet.
