Me and John Haffner set out of Newport Harbor at 5am this morning.
Headed out 6 miles on our way down to the Barn Kelp.
Didnt see a single paddy until we were about 1 mile off the beach in front of San Onofre. We jumped it for shits and giggles and there was only 1 needlefish on it.

Headed down to the barn. Most of the kelp is gone and it is just like a whole different world than it was 2 months ago.
Vis was about 8-15 hazy and green. Not much bait or fish to speak of. Dove for about 20 mins and we werent feeling it at all. Weird vibe there this morning. I swear it seemed like I was going to see whitey come bursting through the kelp any moment.

Headed north to San Mateo kelp...well the entire bed was underwater and we were not going to try and dive in the middle of the 10 boats that were fishing it already. Not to mention the numerous reports of a 12' Great White that has staked up residence there the last 3 weeks.

Headed up and dove west reef for about 40 mins. Vis was 4-8' and I didnt see a single thing I wanted to shoot. Did find a new anchor though

Dove a couple Laguna spots. All of Laguna was green and had bad vis. I was dropping the hook and John accidently dropped his weight belt over in 50' of water. I found it after a couple dives. Could have turned out much worse. Not many fish around today. Even my usual halibut spots werent holding any legal fish so we called it a day and took the skunk.

Back to Newport by 1pm.
Nice waste of gas again.

C'mon Austin. You're just trying to discourage me so I won't get in on it, right?

You can send me the real story by PM.

Damn, sounds shitty out there. Oh well, I'll probably still head out and shoredive laguna tomorrow and just see what's happening. Gotta get out sometime or another.

Sounds like that green algae crud that was up here in PV has moved south. Took about 2 weeks for it to get out of here, good luck until it disappears.

I just rode my bike along the beach through Doheny, and it looked surprisingly blue not far offshore. Of course you can't tell for sure until you are out there looking down, but it was promising.
