Crew- Merk, Ray, inletsurf, inletsurf JR and myself
Depth- 80’ to 95’
Vis- 30+
Temp on the bottom- 64 degrees
Started the day at the ramp smelling something burning and after a quick look see we figure it must be someone else. (more to come) Off we go running 70 degrees out of Sebastian, this is a little further south than I usually go but I wanted to check out some old honey holes and hit a few new ledges. Well it paid off! Dive after dive we pulled bugs, slippers and shot a few fish here and there. On our third dive in 90’ Ray goes one way I go the other, this is one of the new ledges and it’s maybe 3’ tall. I come across a ledge under hang about 30’ long and deep (as far as my light would go I couldn’t see the back) there sits are two Bugs but right next to it is a nice Gag. POW shone shot, well me mistake I forgot to bring my stringer so in the catch bag he goes. :cussing:
The current is ripping so once I bag him I figure I’ll snag the two Bugs, after a quick scan of which way to tickle these guys I notice another set of eye balls way under the ledge staring at me. But this one is much bigger then the last. I blast him only to have a nice little battle with this beast. Once again I forgot my stringer!!! Oh, I didn’t have a knife either to subdue him. :pissed: After a few minutes of struggle I can not get the shaft free so I stuff him in the catch bag along with the spear tip and the Gag. ( man I love these custom catch bags)
Now my dilemma, two nice Gags in the bag, a string come out from the catch bag with a 48’ gun floating up from me and still two Bugs waiting on me. So I did what was right, crawl under the ledge gun floating Gags attached to me and snag the two bugs. :D This wasn’t the smartest thing to do but you have to do what you have to do. Now no more room in the bag so I cut the dive short.
Up on the boat we weight them both, 21.5 and a 42.5 Gags along with the two bugs!
