A bunch of us off sfp are going down to Key Largo to dive next weekend


1. Speigel Grove
2. Dwayne
3. Bib
4. Eagle


Can someone tell me if I am missing any ? Also I am told Eagle is better then Speigel grove ?

Just want to not miss any wrecks and also want to make sure we hit the good ones. I have dove all except the Eagle..

I am told we can spearfish as long as 3 miles off shore, away from wrecks and out of protected area which I heard is very large around there

You cannot spear on the Speigel. You can spear on Duane, Bib, Eagle.
The law is not 3 miles from shore. It is 3 miles from the furthest point of "land" in a line to the next point of "land" 3 miles offshore.
Best bet is look on a chart, you will see the line for Natinonal Marine Sanctuary boundaries.

This should help, the black box is pennekamp park. if you launch from there make sure you spearguns are unloaded! As in shafts and bands removed and stowed below deck.

Most of the map programs have the boundaries drawn on them so you will know. The Duane and the Bib are just south of the park and just outside the three mile line.

All of the cross hatched areas are no spearfishing zones.

The dark red line is the southern end of the park all the way out to about 500'

we go to pennycamp almost every year and get checked several times a year (miniseason). We have never had a problem with spearguns not broken down on the boat. But they do need to be stowed and dry if stopped in the park.

Jamie, Eagle used to have a barrel float. Its more off Islamorada. That was a few years ago. Nice dive. Also just inside of it is the dropoff area, which is nice too. Why Key Largo?
