Last WCC meet for the year fellas, bring out all the big guns and CIA secret spots like the infamous 3 Angels wreck!! :angel3: Oh, you don't have that number?? :slap:

Good vis and fish reports are in, and the weather is shaping up for the last shoot out of 2008. I know Pit Gills is down in the Keys for the JLB Tourny so this is your shot at taking the crown!! (Sorry Pit!! :p)

A summary of current standings can be found by CLICKING HERE (http://www.divefsda.com/WEST_COAST_COUNCIL_TOURNAMENTS/WCC_2008/WCC%20Combined%20Results%20Dives%201_2_3%202008.ht m)

This last meet is sponsored by the St. Pete Underwater Club and will be held at the Ft. DeSoto boat ramp. There will be some great prizes for the weigh-in so even if you only shoot one fish be sure to weigh it in for a shot at them!

Hogsniper had Hogsniperette shine up his grill just for this weekend so be sure to bring your appetites for the weigh-in!! Hogsniper will be wearing his favorite apron so be sure to stop by and say hi to the fry guy.

See everyone on Saturday morning!!

Sheepshead --> Trey Stickland :banghead: :p (I tied and lost to the tie breaker again Charlie :redcard: :D)

The results Rich posted are correct, official posting on the FSDA website will occur soon.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the WCC series this year, everything ran well and there weren't any significant issues. I learned a lot about running this great series and I couldn't have done it without the help from Chuck Schnur, Bill Hardman, Andy Cleveland, Mark Maznek, Frank McCallister, Oscar Mendendez, Ritchie Zacker, Mike Weinard, and of course my beautiful wife Rachel. Thank you and I'm looking forward to being the chairman for 2009.

There were a couple new guys yesterday, Evan Mory and Jason Hall, thanks for coming out and participating while helping support the FSDA and Diver's Rights. Hope to see you guys again next year

The FSDA banquet is February 28th so mark your calanders!

When I woke up Saturday morning and looked out the window I had a big smile on my face as it appeared the wind was hardly blowing.
But, by the time I got to the boat ramp I was thinking we might be spending the Day at the Sandbar bar and grill instead of diving because the wind was blowing so darn hard.:banghead:
Fortunately It turned out to be a pretty stellar day as the wind eventually died around noon.

Our plan was to start in around 80' and hit multiple depths working our way back towards home.
The plan appeared to work pretty good although I was really sad to see so many of my best shallow water spots either partially, or fully covered over still from the Red Tide event several years ago.

The vis was really good in all depths and fish appeared to be plentiful as well but the one dive that stood out the most was the second of the day.
Sea-ment (Matt) and I rolled over on a little wreck in 80' and were headed down in crystal clear water. As the bottom came into view about 30 feet down I could make out multiple large shapes laying motionless or milling around on the bottom through the small amberjack that everywhere. All of a sudden I hear Matt yelling into his regulator and knew right away he was trying to get my attention. I assumed he was yelling about the large fish on the bottom but later found out that it was because the eventual first place Cobia was practically eating the seat out of my shorts!
Matt said he couldnt shoot it because it was just too close to me!
As I dropped, I had to figure out if I was going to take the 15 pound gag or one of the 3 cobia that were laying motionless on the bottom!
I picked the Cobia and pinned him to the bottom with a stone shot to the noggin.
Just as I shot, the big one behind me peeled off and Matt nailed him with a stone shot of his own. His fish was the eventual first place fish at 47 pounds gutted and a personal best!
