We ended up running out of Sargent this last weekend with the flattest seas I have seen this year. We went out to a platform in about 150' water in crystal clear with 150' plus viz.
We dropped down and didn't see many fish until out of the blue came the Ling. At about 90' we both shot nice Ling. We got out fish tied off and under control. While my dad was letting his ling loose some of it's energy it end up pulling off the spear.
We probably should have stayed on that platform but we ended up moving and the viz. was not as nice as the first. Dad was able to shoot anyother Ling. I missed an Amber Jack that would have went about 20#. It went down into the murk and up came about a dozen and so I quickly loaded my gun to take a shot. I squeezed the trigger and the cold steel killed him "graveyard dead". But I had trouble getting the spear out so I cut the dive short.
We had a plan to dive another rig but the ones that was going to dive both had crew boats. So we cut the day short and headed back to Sargent. Being that I hadn't been out of Sargent in awhile I wasn't too sure about the channel. I took it easy coming back in with no problem. But one of these days I need to get with someone that knows the channel good so I will feel alot more comfortable.
