Red Tide 08-13-2007, 06:25 PM Here is a new Custom Hybrid Super Magnum made by Daryl Wong. This is truly a work of art. I now have 6 guns made by Daryl. (Bill Mac eat your heart out)
Daryl designed this gun for me to shoot big palegics. I will be posting pics in the near future. Stay tunned.......

Pretty gun!
Red Tide 08-13-2007, 11:29 PM John,
I have seen what you can do to beautiful Wong gun. Good God man, you need to start using an American Tourister hard case to transport your guns. The reason your gun started shooting crooked for you was because it was hoping that you would sell it or give it away to somebody who would take better care of it. You know...kinda like the women in your life.

GR: Maybe when I'm as old as you I'll know how to take care of a gun. Until then, when a gun or a woman stops getting the job done it's time for a new one. :)

If anyone ever needs to find a good home for one of Daryls finest I wouldn't mind making some extra room around my house.. er boat.
brothertodd 08-14-2007, 01:37 AM Oh yeah I'm jealous
Choke Fish 08-14-2007, 04:45 AM I wish I was rich like you guys!!! :chuck:

Hey Brad,
It is 63 inches long and will be set up with four bands, a 67 inch threaded 5/16 shaft, and a slip tip. I will be bringing it down to Ed Walker's Chumfeast for testing/set-up and to see what you guys think about it. Those sneaky Bermuda Chubs better look out:toast:

Okay old man, I'll put my money where my mouth is.
The first $300 takes my 55" Wong Florida Freeshafter midhandle enclosed track gun which is bored for 9/32" diameter shafts (5/16" shafts won't fit in the track). This gun retails new for $729 (plus shipping) - see http://wongspearguns.com/reefguns.htm. It looks like shit only because I used the thing almost exclusively for over a year, so the finish is all scratched and nicked up from the reefs and the boats. You can either sand off all the varnish and my name or send it back to Daryl to have him refinish it and put your name on it. Personally, I would sand it down and rub it with a couple of coats of teak oil.
The only thing that causes me any functional concern is there is some minor splintering near the muzzle (see photos). I can't shoot the gun with consistent accuracy at longer ranges outside 10' off the muzzle, but it is dead on inside that range. Daryl has assured me that the splintering does not affect the gun's accuracy: "I don't think it is the chip. Particularly where the chip is, won't affect the shaft. I thin it more form how you are shooting. I would tend to think you are pulling the trigger to the right as you shoot and causing the shots to go to the right. If the track is straight, and the shafts not bent them it is how you are aiming or pulling the trigger." GR is the last person to shoot the gun and has certified to me that the gun shoots straight. Maybe I have lost confidence in the gun or the gun doesn't like me as GR says or I just have too much bad charma - I don't know, but I have moved on.
The gun comes as is without any bands or shafts, but it does have a lead handle "clip" weight that causes the gun to be negative without a shaft. The price is firm (not negotiable), and delivery can be had at the St. Pete Open captains meeting, weigh in or awards ceremony.
kitefisherman 08-14-2007, 01:33 PM Just to give you guys a better feel for the overall condition of the gun, here are a few more pictures. PM me your email address if you'd like higher resolution photos.
richt 08-14-2007, 01:39 PM Damn John, I thought I was rough on my equipment!
It looks like you beat somebody to death with that thing.

I shorted out my keyboard with tears just looking at those photos.
Isn't there a law against abusing your Wong?
BTW GR, I have 6 too, so you are just catching up now. However, I don't have that one, and I'm jealous as hell.
I just can't justify that gun for my local conditions, and I can't afford trips where I would need it as long as I'm supporting a boat.
If only I could get my wife to sell her horse.
kjflyfish 08-14-2007, 01:50 PM You should start a Bill McIntyre Hybrid Super Magnum fundraiser. Get all the forum members to pitch in. On second thought, let's make it the Bill McIntyre-Kolt Johnson Hybrid Super Magnum Fundraiser!

Daryl was a lot more understanding than you guys. His response after looking at the first three pictures of the track was: "My gun looks much worse than that. My ono gun was one of the first and I didn't use a muzzle or insert then. The track is half eaten out and yet I have shot over a hundred onos here in the last three years." :)
inletsurf 08-14-2007, 03:12 PM GR, sick sick sick sick gun. Very cool!!!! I need to get the new armour bag for the one I outbid you one :D Are you planning any central america trips soon???
All
Scuba reef shooting beats the living shit out of any gun, the prettier they are the more damaged they look. Thats why the rhino guns don't look so bad after so many years. Personally, I will not care about the cosmetics of any gun that is intended to shoot under a ledge. Because if I do, I will be quickly disappointed!!
Red Tide 08-14-2007, 03:41 PM If you guys think that John's gun looks bad, you should see some of the women he has been keeping.
Another good gun thread gone bad:toast:
