I was wondering what the official name of those big, long, high hp zodiac boats are called? Where can you get one?

Primarily referred to as a RIB(Rigid Inflatable Boat).

That one is a little pricey. Maybe a smaller one with less hp. But someone showed me one for sale in FL that was up for 3k. The color was hidious though.

Why would somebody pay 118K for that?? There're so many better options for that kind of money.

Breathless,

You can repaint them if you like. It is a two part ruberized coating called Tough Coat by SRC.

There are several high end RIB manufacturers out there that produce boats in the 18-30 ft range. A google search for Rigid Hull Inflatable boats will pull up most of them. Many of them contract out to govmt and rescue agencies. I got a quote from two of them...I can't remember which was which but I think it was Ribcraft or something like that had a 6.5 meter cc hypalon boat rigged with twin honda 4 st 90 hp obs, twin internal 20 gallon tanks, radar arch, etc etc for about 40 K. THey also had a great deal on an 8m boat that was just maxed out for 50K....the army had ordered 5 of them and the company made them in grey as specified. The army then decided they wanted them green so they had them redo the order!:slap: They stripped the boats but for some reason one was kept and they were trying to move it. The gun mounts were still on it and were offered to be kept or removed at no extra charge. Its alot of cash for an inflatable boat, but if you look at what this type of boat is capable of it is actually a deal. The average civilian would be hard pressed to come close to putting these boats to the test.

THanks for all the info. Not that I will be getting one soon, its just I was just trying to get others opinions on it all. Those prices are still high though. In the florida paper or something I saw some cheap ones.
Anyhow thank for the info now I can do better searches online.

The 11.2 RIS I have was given to me. I think if you are patient and look around this winter you will find something to fit your budget.

I don't know much about those inflatable boats but what is so appealing about them? Are they better than all fiberglass boats because they are cheaper or what?

I like the fact that I can deflate the boat, roll it up and stow it in the back of my truck under a hard cover while working. Then travel 3 thousand miles, uncover, unroll, inflate and add the engine. Then repeat for the trip back home...No trailer to worry about since parking is a big deal for me while on the road for work.

It all depends on what you want to do with them and in what type of conditions. They can handle rougher weather conditions than a fiberglass hull of comparable size, they are lighter and tend to get better fule mileage and you can take them into shallows or beach them much easier than a fiberglass hull. Again it all depends as to what task you plan on doing with the boat, if it is simply a fishing/diving boat you are probably better off with a cheaper fiberglass hull.
