I heard there were some new graduates in Key West today. Times and depths please.......... I also heard Chris Hill graduated at the top of his class.
Another group of guys are going to Miami this weekend for the intermediate class.
It is really great to see all these everybody getting serious about being safe divers.

I'm signed up for the September 8 intermediate class and am very interested in what kind of progress to expect. I'm a very average intermediate diver 70' 1:30 personal best.

Thanks,

Chad

Chad, Don't mean to derail this thread, but I took the F.I.T class, well worth the money as far as knowledge and safety..here's a vid from a previous class

I would be thrilled with progress in the same ballpark as the guy in the video. Was that you Freek? If not, what were your personal best static and depths before the class and what did you reach during the class?

No, I had eqaulizations problems at 66ft. My PB went from 1.30 to 3.30...:D
One cool thing is that you're always welcome to come back and join a class for the ocean dives to practice.

The class was awesome! Managed a 4:43 on my static and 121' for my deepest dive. Everyone in the class including me blew away their expectations. I can't recommend PFD enough!!!

Congratulations on breaking 100 Chris. Now all you have to do is shoot big, shoot often, and be safe...piece of cake:D

Wow Chris, contrats that's strong!! Sounds like we are in about the same position going in. I'll let you know how I do.

I talked to Pat about doing an overnight yellow fin trip this summer, my recent scouting, um er, sitting on the boat with a bunch of fishermen wishing I could get in the water trips have been promising lately. My neighbors have never eaten so much tuna, but I still haven't landed one with a spear. Let me know if you guys are serious about the trip.

Do they ever offer this course in the Tampa/St. Petes area? I would love to take it and have a place to stay in St Petes if they were ever to offer it there.
Thanks, Steve

Ive always wondered this too. I know the reason they do it in Miami is because they can get to deep water close to shore but It seems to me that a clinic could be done in many of the local springs on the Gulf Coast.
I think there is a large untapped market here for a freediving clinic that is not being tapped

Im a newbie to going down deep, I am fine diving in 20-30 feet, scouting around, and getting a quick shot off, whats the best way to increase the time I can hold my breath, also how should I breath before I actually dive down, im obviously not going to try tro do what you guys are doing, I just want to be able to go down 30 ft, and stay down there so I dont always have to rush my shots. Oh ya sorry bout posting this here, but what do you guys think about an aimrite hawaiin railgun? I was thinking about getting either a 100 or 110 cm, for these shallow reefs, hogs, small grouper, when I go offshore occasional smallish dolphin.

Good questions and topics but I would start a couple new threads with your questions in the appropriate sections.
There are some of the best in the business on this site and I'm sure you will get some great answers to your questions.;)

freedvr1,

Probably the simplest thing you can do is learn to not rush, and relax. My biggest problem starting out was thinking I had to get there quickly. I find that I can feel like I need to breath quickly by just tensing up and making a few quick movements, whereas if I relax (like I'm trying to go to sleep) while floating on top of the water taking slow deep breaths and not rush the dive I can go deeper and stay longer (always a good thing).

There are some good books on the subject, and if you can do a touch and go at 30' you are ready for the intermediate class. At the recent expo, Kirk said that the average student who can do a touch and go at 30' will be able to dive 70 or 80 by the end of the class, and most importantly be a much safer diver. If you really want to get better seriously consider it. I know that I can't wait, been trying to get in one for a couple years now.

On your gun, I think it's a very good choice. Hope this helps, and welcome to the board.

Thanks that actually helped a lot, I never though much of going down 30 ft, especially after seeing shows of people going down 70-80 ft and spearing wahoo ect. I will probally end up taking the beginner coarse anyways, I want to be absolutly sure im going to be doing everything right.

Put a class together...If you can find 16 people they will come wherever you want. I know 2-3 people around here that want to do it as well.

There might be a problem getting to over 100 feet of water to do open water dives in in the bay area. If not Im sure they'd come here.
Kirk mentioned that while teaching Tiger Woods to improve his diving, Tiger told him that he plays golf to support his freedive spearfishing habit.

I also took the PFI class and managed a 5:28 static breath hold. We were only able to do one ocean session, so I wasnt able to go deep but I did manage it do an 84 ft. pull down on the line. Kirk estimated my depth at about 150. I would never spear at that depth, but it would be fun to give it a shot.

I'm saving the money, and if the class was in tampa I would sign up. I told my dive partner about the class so we're both trying to get the time and money. Tampa would help out a lot since it is only half the drive for us.
