I've been free shafting awhile now and it has been a lot more productive for me over the years. For those of you who do the same, in what situations would you reattach your line? I always have it there with me. If you were to see a larger fish like a big black would you still free shaft? If you were to have the time to change would you? Obviously, shooting up under a ledge or into a wreck where your shaft isnt retrievable would not be of best interest. I feel like I might miss the oppurtunity with a big fish like that if I were to freeshaft. Maybe not! Also, do diving different structures make you change strategies? I know some will say dont take the shot unless its a good one, but I always aim for a kill shot and sometimes it just doesnt happen. Also, I have heard of people putting on little rubber pieces or other instruments to possibly stop the spear from going all the way through the fish? Any advice?

I usually only lineshaft on wrecks...Last couple trips I made, I freeshafted my AJ's and stoned them all. it was just a matter of waiting for the proper shot. I have tried my hardest to ston eAJ's with my line shaft and just cant seem to do it. Freeshaft and I smoke them every time, so far.

Also if there is a deep ledge and I see a fish up in it. I will get on top of it and install the leash. otherwise, its always the freeshafts a flyin!
