(duplicate post from other board in case you read both)
Here are some photos of a gun I just "finished". I say it this way b/c normally I do a carving on the gun but I rushed it to get it out to my buddy Joe who is going to Alijos rocks (sp?) in Mex next week. I told him he could use it and if he likes it buy it from me...if he wants it he'll send it back for me to finish to his desired condition including a custom carving on the stock. I started this project...wow..I guess three years ago??? It got put on hold because I lost motivation I guess, got busy, was diving, working, surfing, and built about 4 other guns. Anyway, I notched up my work last month in order for Joe to get it in time and got it done for him.
Heres the specs: 64 inches from butt pad to muzzle tip.
-Rob allen barrel plugged and air filled (hope it stays that way..there was an incident with a coverslip screw being drilled too deep)
-RA barrel runs entire length of gun so shaft is on rail all the way to mech. Wood is sanwiched around barrel and rail with enclosed track (that was a bit tricky)
-Modified Riffe (maybe metaltech??) muzzle that accomodates 3 5/8 bands
-heinrich style line release...for testing I rigged with riffe 5/16 shaft with three loading fins and one larger cocking fin. The cocking fin worked perfect for the line wraps and no guide was necessary. I put a nice pin out from side of gun to guide line wraps if no cocking fin was present (if you don't know this type of line release then this makes no sense).
-Wood is teak i got in bali, total of four laminates and tapers vertically and horizontally towards front. All edges routed with half round for less resistance through water. Width is close to if not greater than height on wood portion.
-Kitto mech (M2 maybe...can't keep track, I had it for a while).
-Pistol grip frame from neptonics and I handcarved side grips from teak.
-Gun sealed and coated with three coats cpes
In the pool it shot well...controlled stationary target grid showed consistant 2.5-4 inch drop at 22 feet. Gun was rigged with three TIGHT 5/8 bands, no tip on threaded shaft, and mono shooting line with break away. At 22 feet it also yanked the bungie out from the holder.
Inside of 15 feet I was putting shaft through 2x2 inch square.
This gun was definately a prototype and I learned some lessons for next time.
Hope it works for Joe D'ags in Mex (although I think he has like 3 other guns with him too!). I told him at least get a kill shot with mine!
