View Full Version : Not bad for a shore dive...
Platypus 10-15-2008, 12:51 AM Before Jeff Alberts headed off to Australia, we decided to go diving. I had been suffering from a sinus infection, and bronchitis (which I am still battling) so I decided to stay home and paint my toenails and let the guys go dive without me for a change. I waited for them to come home, the grins on their faces told me they did well. They did. All within a hour of hitting the water. Two days later Derek Hara got his first Uku! Damn sinus infection...:banghead: One of the Uluas should have been mine! :D There are some decent Ukus out there, it's only a matter of time.... Hey RigDvr - when you and da kine coming back? :D
Marcus 10-15-2008, 09:39 AM Hey Angela...Good to hear from ya!
Nice to hear from you, it's been a while.
Platypus 10-15-2008, 05:39 PM Hey guys! :toast:
I have been so busy these days, I will try and keep in better touch. Let me know if you plan a trip to the BI.
Here is another Ulua, although it was not a shore dive, but he cast from shore (a cliff). It weighed about 120lbs.
Hi Angela thanks for the pictures and report. Awesome jobfish Rick has there! Hope you get better soon and start terrorizing the fish again.

Hi Emil!
Yes, from your lips to God's ears! :D I have seen some huge Jobbies and Milkfish that are dying of old age, poor things... ;)
Teh Wicked 10-22-2008, 11:02 AM What is the record for Ulua?
Platypus 11-04-2008, 05:03 PM Travis Kashiwa has the Hawaii State Record with a 144.2lb beast. This is also the current World Record as well, I think.

The state record for the largest speared ulua is 191 lbs, shot by Al Gadow while scuba diving in the 1980`s on the island of Maui,This is the record in the hawaii fishing news.Travis`s ulua shot while free diving which is exceptional is a record with Hanapaa hawaii and is a world record.Aloha,Kip

I finally jumped in with Rick, Derek and Andrea a couple weeks ago. I have finally beat my illness. Did OK with uhu, kalis and a joe. Rick saw a monster Ulua cruising along the ledge, probably about 80lb+ but was quick to catch on and scoot off into the deeps. Derek checked the ulua house but there was no one home. I had a ball stalking Mu with Rick - they are hella smart!
