Hi everyone. Well this is my first post and i wanted to show everyone the pole spear i made and get some input on it. First of all i live in miami and do all my spearing off of miami and the upper keys. I do all freediving but in relatively shallow compared to what some of you guys do, its all in less then 40 feet. Im still learning and trying to improve on my depth. With that said i wanted a pole spear that was light and fast since most of what im hunting is smaller sized fish, hogs, mutton and occasionally the grouper. I started out with a thin walled aluminum tube and made two caps for it, one at the back end with a hole for the band (pic 1) and on on the front with a threaded end for the tip (pic 2). These ends were also made out of aluminum. They were then epoxied and pressed into the Aluminum tube. I then put a carbon fiber sock over the tube. Once this cured i tested it and found that it was not quite stiff enough, when i would stretch the band it would bow quite a bit. So after shooting a few hog's i called it a day and added another layer of carbon fiber. This second layer really stiffened it up and it is now ready for use. I also designed a slip tip to work with the spear (pic 4). Let me know what you think.
