Would you guys be interested in doing a six pack freedive spearfishing trip to San Clemente? It's a day trip but "in the water time would be from about 9am to 5pm. The boat is a 50' long, 16' beam boat that does 25kts. It's brand new and is owned by a dive shop that will primarily use it for scuba trips. Due to some coast guard regulations, the boat isn't licensed for more than a six pack boat for now. The owner wants to know if there's any interest from freedivers to go to San Clemente leaving at about 5:30 and returning by 8:30-9pm.

The captain is a well known captain for one of the long range fishing boats.

Cost will be $225 to $250 pp includes meals and drinks. They'll have rigging and terminal gear for spearfishermen as well.

Is that the boat Ryan is involved with? I heard it's killer. I might be up for it.

Some more info from John Metzger of OEX Dive & Kayak Centers
www.OEXcalifornia.com:

...Basically, for a six-pack to Clemente, we're going to need to charge $250 a person otherwise we'll lose money. When we get our Coast Guard paperwork through, we can drop the price down because we can take more divers. It's possible that will happen this week but not for sure. The paperwork thing drives us nuts, but we gotta stay legal!

As for our Captain, his name is Ryan Wilbarger and he's the real deal. He's an active spearfisherman, has been captaining boats his whole life (he was in the perfect storm among others), and really does know what he's doing. He has been working on long-range sportfishing charter boats for years and knows how to find fish.

As for the boat, it's fast and stable and will motor on up to wherever we're going in good time. The advantage of a day trip is that it doesn't kill an entire weekend for anybody. It's one day and there's as much water time as there would be on a slow overnight boat. It's big and beamy and I'm telling you it'll be killer. Attached is a pic to pass along.

The $250 is actually not a real money maker for us but I'm confident it will help spread the word about the boat and the trips. Divers are going to dig it, no doubt and our hope is that they'll talk.

Wow, that looks like a real nice boat for diving. I wish I could go.
