Default Water in fuel - fuel polishing

I got some water in my tank, I believe from some jugs we used on a middle grounds trip. And I've had to use a few jugs with ethanol in them.

So last Saturday was a bit rough, some water in the starboard side made it past my fuel/water separator and into the engine, the alarm came on in the middle of the day.

So I called West Florida Fuel Polishing to come clean my tanks out. My boat is only 2 years old, and I've only used ethanol gas once or twice. 400 hours on the motor.

They got about 10oz of water out of my starboard tank, and some nasty debris. Only a few ounces came out of the port tank.

These guys were very professional and fast. 3 hours, cleaned both 80 gallon tanks and returned all the clean fuel to the tanks. They also flushed the fuel lines from the tanks to the separators. Total cost $270.

Boat ran great afterwards, and not a drop of water in the new separators.

Make sure your O rings on your fills are good and sealed. Also make sure your vent is not the problem. If it is move it to a better spot. I had a bad O ring got water in the fuel, and polished my own, replaced the O ring, and it is fine now (on my outboard boat).

Jim came to my shop and did one of my boats a few weeks ago. Super nice guy, just used my electric and they were clean and efficent. Thanks for the referral.

I have been under the impression that most of the water that gets into tanks is due to condensation. For this reason I have always kept my tank completely full. Luckily our tank is perfectly sized so that we use about half our fuel each trip so our fuel can stay topped off without carrying around too much extra weight...
