Default Line-X Protective Non-Skid for Dive Boats

Hi all. I am in the process of restoring an older 31 Contender hull as a spearfishing boat. I would like to share a new product/vendor that I had a great experience with, and I think will be a huge hit with the spearfishing community. Spearfishing is rough on boats and in the past I have always stressed about the deck getting trashed by tanks, weight belts and spear shafts. That should be a thing of the past!

For the past year or more, Linex of Sarasota has been perfecting a new product for the marine industry. It is a protective coating with the same protection properties as their truck bedliners, but with the texture and look of regular boat non-skid. I brought the boat there to have them redo the deck, as the nonskid had mostly worn off and the deck was very slick. I also wanted the extra protection from tanks, weight belts, spear shafts etc. They did the deck in Ice Blue, with a clear top coat of teflon like material that is supposed to resist blood guts and dirt sticking to it, so everything hoses out without having to scrub. The work is done and I should have it back soon, but I got the chance to see it and it looks amazing! I will update the thread once I have had a chance to put some hours on the boat with a full review on how it is holding up, but initial impressions are excellent.

If you need to redo your nonskid, I recommend talking to Brian and his crew. The pricing is comparable to what a good glass shop would charge to clean up an older deck and redo the nonskid.

Here are some pics. He also sprayed a hogfish stencil in the theme of a dive flag on the tank storage box, which I think looks killer!

Nice Rob. Shoot me a PM. I am interested in the cost. When you are up this way if you are staying with Dave let me know since he lives right down the street.

Wow I'm interested . I have an 06 32' cc century that the deck is getting pretty slippery and beat up looking. Can you give up your contact? I like to keep my boat in top shape and I think he's on to something!

Did they happen to mention if this was a process standard to all Linex locations ? Or if only in Florida?

A friend of mine had his boat sprayed by a linex dealer and it didn't hold up at all. I agree it is really dependent on the installer and prep but can tell you he had no luck getting the dealer to warranty nor linex. I would be very interested to stay updated on your boats condition over the next few years. Please keep us updated on how it holds up.

What I have been told is that a lot of it is in the shop that does the install. I imagine the warranty experience varies shop to shop as well as each place is independently owned. Linex of Sarasota did 18 months of their own R&D and invested in special spray guns before releasing this new coating for marine applications. I know I am still a bit of a guinea pig, but it will be great if it works out as advertised. I'll report back after a few hundred hours of abuse and we'll see how it holds up. Here's their web site for anyone who's interested Line-X of Sarasota | Protective Coatings

I wasn't trying to rain on your parade, but in fairness giving an honest account of my dealings in a similar situation with the same manufacturer that's all. I know what you mean about different dealers. I went through that with Ford. It amazes me the difference from one dealer to another.

Did the screws for the deck plates get removed or sprayed over? I'm curious.

no worries at all, I appreciate the honest feedback. Time will tell if these guys have the process dialed in. I'll make sure to update the thread after some abuse.

The deck screws all came out because we were doing other work and had them out anyway. Then they will run a countersink bit on all the holes and reinstall the screws. But I have seen other pics where they have sprayed right over them.
