I got a cell phone call from Nate Baker a couple of miles off the East End of Catalina, where he was diving with Dennis May and John Hanson.

The good news is that John got a yellowtail in the low 20s.

The bad news is that his engine appears to have blown a head gasket, and he was enjoying the view of the transom of a Vessel Assist boat as we spoke.

But as we were talking, he interrupted himself to shout "hey, look at that turtle" to the other guys. I reminded him that its sometimes necessary to slow down and smell the flowers if you want to truly enjoy a trip.

Maybe one of those guys was trying to take a dump... That's the closest to a "turtling" emoticon as I can find.

Excuse me while I clear my mind after putting together what "turtling" meant.
