Default PV Condition Updates Sat. 2010-01-16

Beautiful day today; ~74*F and a gentle breeze. I drove and walked most of the peninsula this morning around high tide to check on conditions for a Sunday dive.

Pedro is mostly out; maybe 2 to 3 ft vis... it gets really torn up there when the wave period is as long as it is.

I walked out to the cliffs above Abalone cove; the vis is spotty but it's probably diveable in some areas. I could see the rocks in the shallows in one area.

Terranea surprised me; looks like 10 ft vis at least, and it's pretty much flat. I guess the west swell is blocked pretty well by the point.

Pt Vicente might be diveable on the outside; there were some boats out there. In close it's washed out.

Golden Cove looks decent; 6-10 ft vis in the middle. The shallows are washed out from the surge.

For everything north of that: surfs up!

I dove Terranea today from 10 til noon. It was beautiful! ~8 ft vis in the shallows and 15 ft in the kelp. The water was 59*F. Baitfish everywhere, though no gamefish to be seen. It sure was nice to get in a dive before the storm started!

At this point, I am just hoping it clears up by May.
