Default Mounting speargun rack to Pilothouse

Can anyone offer their experience in mounting a spear gun rack like this to a 23 ft Parker Pilot house? Do you just drill through holes through the pilot house and secure with washers & bolts maybe using some 5200 to seal the holes up good? The photos were just a quick dry fit taken before I came offshore for work.

I think I'll have to put a spacer between the rack & cabin for ample clearance so the guns ride straight up & down and not rub against the roof too much.

    Your thoughts?

That's what I did on my SeaSport, and I don't know why it wouldn't work on a Parker. Obviously, you would need to look at what was on the back side so that you'd be happy with the washers and nuts.

For a year or so, I had Roll Control aluminum channels screwed to the fiberglass so that I could remove the gun racks. I'll include photos of that in case you think its something you want to do.

But I noticed that I was never removing the racks, so I figured I'd bolt them to the fiberglass to make them harder to steal.

I had to use a teak spacer so that the guns leaned out far enough so that the tips didn't hit a grab rail on the back of my pilot house.

I'd put it on the deck not the gunnel. When your boats pitching and rolling the guns will want to rock around. IMO it wouldn't take long before something bad happens. Especially if you have any heavy muzzled guns.

I agree. The guns would be pretty precarious out there on the side.

Thanks for the feedback & guidance.

I can't mount on the floor near the Pilot house because I have a canvas top that would interfere and it's just too darn sunny on the coast to go without shade.

One of my local dive shops has a Parker with a similar rack from Ocean Rhino mounted on the side and he doesn't seem to have trouble. Fully agree that it could be an issue but man you'd have to be in a real bind for stuff to fall out.

Another option I considered was to mount it toward the stern. I have some useless (uh ahem, not being used) fish rod holders mounted on the splash wall. It's reverse-able as long as you don't trim up too much so I could just spin it around and mount the rack right in the middle but my main concern would be my ice chest sliding backwards and smashing the guns.

I'm really tempted to do something temporary with roll control components on the stern for now before drilling into the cab.

The pics were taken over a year ago just after I bought it so she's not that dirty anymore--promise.

    Thanks again everyone.

BTW just a shout out to Henry Ballentina (?) for the rack. I think it came out nice and was only $135 shipped which was less costly than some others.

If anyone needs his contact info PM me but I'm pretty sure he's on this board somewhere.

Remove those useless rod holders under your gunnel and replace them with

Yep, that would have been a good idea, but the only challenge is that when spearfishing that area will be full of tanks and they'd be in the way of the gun rack.
