For those with the nifty humminbird sidescan units, here's a cool thread on treasurenet where some guy wrote some software that converts your humminbird file to use on some free web imaging applications. Humminbird only does a "screenshot" however this sofware will allow you to playback all recorded data.

Steve, those are the guys I know with the Hummminbird side scans, Robert-RGecy and Jason-ScubaFinder. They are in my treasure salvage group, over in Micco, now Ft Pierce. Robert also has a $10000+$ side scan, and now only uses the Humminbird. Jason built a towfish, that basicly looks like a 30" long 3" diameter PVC rocket. It has 4 PVC flat fins. It has 5 lbs of lead shot spread evenly throughout. It gets good pictures, pulls fine. Robert then made one same , except with round PVC tube fins, and no weight and it pulls down and straight. Both have real good, perfect pictures. The program Robert has is fantastic. I plan to get one of these, next month, as I got a new boat and it needs a better Fishfinder, has a color CRT Furuno and has an old Furuno GPS that is not a chartplotter. So I'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Hey Steve,
Can you ask one of those guys what they like as far as settings go for the transom transducer. Settings include: width, color, gain, scroll speed... My image quality has gone down a fair bit with growth on the transducer. I bet the towfish images are awesome.

Nice, I get to play around with one of these at work. Working on coordinating the sonar readings with adcp measurements at the moment. Thanks for the link

thanks for posting, some really cool info there. I kind of like the pole idea better than the towfish because then you can mark stuff easy on the gps part of the unit. If the transducer is 100 feet back of the gps antenna then all your info is going to be 100 feet off right?

I am sure the scroll speed must match the boat speed. I know it works best between 5 and 10 knots. I havent got mine yet, but when I do, I will inquire about all that and get back to you. I havent fiddled with theirs, just looked at the pretty pictures, and wished it was mine! We were looking for wrecks(as indicated by the pics) and we could see fish also. We saw many ledges, and little tiny things, that normally wouldnt show up. It is very different than a regular fish finder, it is like a picture in panorama! At first it looks like its on its side, but you get used to how it lays out.

Sorry for the late reply, I havent' checked this thread in over a week. I don't know the guys personally. They are over on treasurenet.com, in the "shipwreck" section. When I get time I'll send a PM to them and ask them. Steve
