On 22 May 2010 a 21 yr old free dive spearo passed away on Oahu, Hawaii.
"KAENA POINT (HawaiiNewsNow) - A sad ending to a search for a missing diver off Leeward Oahu Saturday morning. Fire rescue crews pulled the body of a missing free diver off Kaena Point at about 1:00 PM. The search began around 10:00 a.m. after the 21-year old male failed to come ashore with his partner. A fire spokesperson says the man was free diving with at least one other person at the time. Crews searched both on land and in the water for the man. Efforts were hampered by a dive tournament in the area, but we're told the missing man was not part of the tournament." http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/global/...asp?s=12527347 This was in the same area that the annual Gene Higa Memorial tournament was being held on the same day and time. This spearo was not appart of this tournament. Will post more info as it comes. Very sad to hear of another spear lost. ![]() Dive akamai/safe Aloha, Chad This is all the details at this point and I will update once more are released so please save the questions because I/we just dont know the answers at this point and dont want the rumor mill to begin. |

Can never get use to hearing this kind of news. Makes me think of all the times I dove solo. Bad business.

Sad story.
It's happening more and more every year with the influx of new, young spearos. We all need to help educate the new guys. C
