so im new to spearfishing. i havent even tried it yet. i just bought a pole spear. i was told it would be best to start with a pole spear considering the water i will be diving in. im in northern california. what other equipment should i have besides the spear? float? float line? shock cord?
just alittle confused because i was told i dont need any of that other stuff, just the spear, but on video clips, i see people using pole spears that are attached to a float line. to me, it seems to make more sense to have the spear attached to a line and float so if the spear shoots outa your reach, you can just grab the line as your surfacing. ![]()

I'm not familiar with California waters (aside from always being cold, Mr. Whitey, and great surf) but hopefully mnguy will chime in here since he hunts with a polespear in California.

Hey, man, just shoot me a PM with all of your questions and I'll try to tackle them the best I can. I've been diving out here since 2006 in NorCal and SoCal.
