    Default FRA-Gulf Council June Update

Here's what the Gulf Council Published in their June 2009 Meeting update. It is found buried on the bottom under the lengthy story on the sea turtles. I didn't think anyone would notice it stuffed down there, so pasted it here for you to read.

During its June meeting, the Gulf Council received a report on the status of gag grouper in the Gulf of Mexico. A recent stock assessment update shows a decline in the abundance of gag.

In other words, the stock is overfished and the Council must take immediate action to end overfishing and rebuild the stock. The Council, as a result, directed staff to initiate a plan amendment for the rebuilding of gag grouper.

If you dont get any gags they are overfished and need to rebuild, if you have a good day and slay them you are overfishing them, It is a lose lose situation with these people
The church is near but the way is icey, The pub is far but I'll walk carefully.

Gunny, you hit the nail on the head. Like running the 100 yd. dash in a hard hat suit against Olympic runners in their gear. You have lost before getting out of the starting blocks.

Dr. Poon, I like your avatar.
    It says a lot.

I am just looking for the Council to use accurate data (not the existing MRFSS) for their assessments. If they correct their survey system, improve their data collection, and still find that a species is over fished, than I would gladly put aside my gun.
