Default Panama City Spinys 3-20-10

We finally made it out again and since everything is closed we went after bugs. We did pretty good I think. I got two 7# and an 8# so life is good. Found a few nice mangroves too but we were too deep with too little bottom time when we found the sweet spot to do much damage. Temp was only 62*F which is colder than normal by a long way for the area we were in. It usually never gets below 65* even in the coldest part of Winter.

What are the current temps up and down the GUlf right now? I just heard from my buddys in Key Largo at Aquarius that the water is 55*F and has been for quite some time. Are you guys seeing cold water all down the coast there? I can't believe that Panama City has warmer water than the Keys.... Day After Tomorrow stuff right there.

How deep were you to get 62? I've heard 55 at 120ft west of pinellas.

57 degrees 50 miles out of Clearwater, it got up to 60 a few weeks ago, but then got cold again. RZ says the coldest he's ever seen it in the Grounds.

Marathon Key was 66-69 degrees last week, so its warming up down there. Supposedly the coldest winter on record in the Keys since they've kept track.

We were in 120 -157' about 42-46 miles out but it is 60-62 even inshore right now here, which is normal. 62 is very cold for out there though, at anytime. Its the coldest I've seen it out there and I've been diving the area for 5 years now in the Winter. Wacky stuff, maybe we'll be invaded by whale sharks again this Summer...

Hopefully I will get to dive with the Whale Sharks this time around if so.
