Glad to hear it arrived safely. I may give you a call to ask you a few questions about the assembly process and your experience using it if you don't mind. We want to ensure you are happy with it.

I checked out that ozello shrimper design today. I'm impressed. Somebody has done their homework. I'm thinking of buying one. It appears to be a robust design, free of wear and tear...minus the non-aluminum pole holder attachment and gate spring. I assume those parts are cheaply replaceable though?
Otherwise, it looks like a very good design that's efficient and will last a lifetime.

Thanks for the compliments Marcus,

We spent about two and a half years designing the new Ozello Shrimper. I am glad it shows!

Yes, as you indicated, the two parts are easily replaceable.

The pole holder can be unscrewed and reattached and the spring can be replaced by removing the gate door and reinserting a new one.

We don't anticipate this being needed for a very long time though. Based on previous models, the spring is virtually indestructible and lasts darn near forever. The pole holder is used in commercial wet applications and is designed to operate for long periods of time in wet areas.

A good coat of flat black spray paint will extend the longevity of the trap even longer. We didn't paint them out of the shop because we figured people would want to personalize the trap with their own colors - camo, black, blue, etc.

Where did you see our new trap? In person or just on our website?

Website, I watched your video and looked thru the assembly instructions to figure out how it works and see if I could make my own.
I figured out that it was worth the $120 rather than the time it would take to build my own.

Hey Dblshot,

Figured I would check in with you and see what you thought of the new Ozello Shrimper you picked up a few weeks ago. Did you get a chance to use it yet? How was it to put together?

My buddy had a run in with some jumbos (5-6 inches) late last week but it was only that one night. Tonight has good tides.

The link to ozello shrimper is excellent. I have never tried it before but looks very fun. Any thoughts on good locations around Sarasota.

Look at the grass flats adjacent to the passes. If in the boat, you can pull your boat right up to the flat from the channel, leaving your motor in the deep, get out and wade around. Please report back.

I went Thursday night in the Ft. DeSoto area for 2 hrs and picked up a couple pounds. Most were in the "select" size with a couple of jumbos. Had a small bonnet head shark get squirrely between my legs after my attempt to net him was unsuccessful

Good looking tides later next week.

Most were selects? That's beautiful. I should've gone but had heard its all small and mediums which are a PITA to me.

Reminds me of one time a buddy of mine were wading sarasota flats with a wading net, catching a few fat mullet for dinner. There was a small black tip cruising the flat doing the same. We tried to net him, ya know, just for the hell of it *scooby doo laugh*, but he was too quick.

Put it together in about 45mins using just the paper directions that came with it. Going this weekend for the first time and will report back on how everything goes. After listening to my buddy Russfer who has your older model and goes alot I have high hopes, and am already making cocktail sauce!

Has anyone ever tried snorkeling the flats with a light or is wading the flats just more productive?

The flats are pretty shallow. might be difficult. wading gives you a higher perspective in things. plus i think you might have a hard time figuring out how to catch them in snorkeling deep water. the shallow water keeps them fairly confined and easy to catch.

OK. Got my Ozello shrimper in the mail yesterday. Will be putting it together before tomorrow. Hoping to make it out tomorrow evening for some clamming and then some shrimpin' for a couple hours just after dark in Sarasota bay if the wind gods let it be.
Anybody have reports of ginormous shrimp biting off fingers while trying to apprehend? No? OK, I'll settle for reports of hand picked sized shrimp drawing blood with their unihorns.
