Just wondering what you guys wear to keep from getting stung during warm water months and if you could make recommendations. I wore the Mako long sleeve rash guard and a pair of sorts the last time I went out and ended up with a bunch of sting marks right below the bottom of the shorts. I'd like to have a full suit but not have to worry about burning up in it while I'm in the boat between dives. Thanks.

I don't do as much freediving as scuba shooting but i wear a mako 1.5 all summer long. When its my turn to sit it starts to dry out so i just jump in the water for a second to get it wet again. As long as you keep it wet it actually keeps you kinda cool and protected no more scrapes on the legs, no fire coral in the keys lobstering and no jellyfish stings.

For me personally when freediving I always wear enough suit to have positive bouyancy at the surface with no air in my lungs just so if I do SWB it will be easy for my buddy to rescue me. In the summer when the water is warm that is a 3mm top and boardshorts with 1lb of weight. I dont wear the hood and leave the beaver tail loose, so there is a good bit of refreshing water moving thru keeping me from overheating. Between dives I just take the suit off and work on my tan hahaha. However I just got a spetton 1.5mm and I am looking forward to playing around with it and seeing how it affects my bouyancy. Im thinking I will probably be wearing the full 1.5mm with no weights.

There is, and I can't remember the manufacturers, one piece skin suits. I have one in black (and camo) and I'm in it all day. It also provides UV protection. Aquatic Obession and Jim's have them.

Hahaha. Thanks John. I can deal with the stings during the dives. I just can't deal with 3 days of itching and scratching afterwards.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think I'll try the Lycra suit. |
