The date and place has been set for the 1st official meeting of the Sarasota/Charlotte county area spearfishing club meeting. Sam-TrailsEnd-his dad is an owner of Capt Eddies in Nokomis- Colonia Lane and US 41. They are glad to have us do the 1st meeting there. Date is Sept 17th Wed evening @ 6:30 PM at Capt Eddies. The WCC doesn't dictate individual club rules.

To the best of my knowledge the Florida Freeshafters are the only club in the WCC that prohibits it members from being members of other clubs.

For example I am a member of the Tampa Bay Spearfishing Club and The St. Pete Underwater Club. Both clubs are members of the West Coast Council.

The WCC was formed to bring clubs together for friendly competation, community developement, and general representation. It sounds like you have an axe to grind against the WCC, i dont understand why as it (wcc) can be used as an asset to help organize and grow your local club and be a good shoulder to lean upon if ever needed.

Thats it! Thats the place! I just didnt want it moved to Announcements as many dont look there often. I was given hell a couple months back for attempting to start a local club, but it was taken back, by a fellow member of Florida Free Shafters. He thought I could not be a member of 2 clubs, but on checking, it read I cannot be a member of another club competing in WCC spearfishing tournies. So maybe FFS is the only club that does this. I still plan on being a member of Florida Freeshafters too. I'm not breaking any rules. I put that there, as several guys asked me if there was a problem with them being members of SPUCs etc, and coming to meetings. I have no problem at all with WCC. On the contrary, I agree with everything they do. Sorry it sounded like I had a problem with them, I dont. Maybe some day we will be a WCC afilliated club. Right now its a get together/networking, sharing of ideas, trips, and socializing of local spearos. We had a BBQ at the beach for a prelim get together in July, and finally figured out a place and time for the first one.

I will be there.

Glad to hear it Steve, sorry if i misread you or read too much into your post. We will leave it where it is. I had wanted to go to the bbq as it sounded like fun. If you guys do it again i hope to be able to make it down.

I have had quite few phone and PM verifications, plus what is listed here, looks like a good showing! Talked to my LDS and he will tell local spearos. Sam is making a flier, so we should have a crowd. I have a phone/email list, and will call all who have not responded yet. Should be a good time. Sam Chavers and Marty Martel have wanted to do this for a while, and they eventually want to put on a spearfishing tourney. They already have worked out a place, logistics etc, but I will let them talk about it. They have put on the Sarasota Shark tournament for 3 years now(I think 3?) and it has been a big success, so they do know how to do that, and with Eric Tobin-the manager of SCUBA Quest Sarasota, who has many manufactures at the ready for sponsors, and several speargun builders, like Stuart Daneman-of the now famous Kudana over/under enclosed track double and others in the area, should be a good thing too. This should be a good get together. We plan on this being a monthly casual get together, not always at Capt Eddies, sometimes down South, sometimes up in Sarasota, sometimes possibly a member will host at their house etc, so all in the area will get to make it and not have go too far. Sam and his father have hosted this 1st meeting at Capt Eddies, which is central to the area. Mapquest 107 Colonia Lane East, Nokomis FL, if you dont know where this is. Right at the light NE corner of Colonia Lane and US 41. They have been very generous too, so let them know you appreciate it. Only 1 week, so hopefully all can attend. I see Hank, who caught the hog for the prelim BBQ, is working, maybe he can get the evening off, as that night he had to work also. Sorry Hank, it just worked out that way. See Ya, Steve.
