I dont have a definite place yet, but felt we needed to go ahead and set a date. I have been busy lately with work, house remodeling and working on our boat, for a Marquesas trip this weekend. Wed, Oct 22nd evening. Place will be set at a later date. Any suggestions? If I dont hear any, I will post one prior to meeting date. Some places are Woodies Riveroo on the manatee river just East of I-75 bridge, another is Ricos Pizza, North Sarasota on 41. Is Marker 4 just North of Venice still there? Also Urbenacs/Pops sunset grill on the intercoastal water way in Nokomis-across from the Nokomis Beach. They have a large room and an outside area, away from the crowded dock seating area. Also the Blackburn road fish house is opening the tiki bar again after it being closed down for a couple years. That is a nice place too. Any places that have a fairly quiet area, snack food, drinks, that you think would be nice? Let me know. I will send out emails.

I would do it this week, but I dont think that would be enough time for everyone, and next week we'll be gone, so the following week it is.

I was at the Winghouse in Bradentucky last night to get supplies for the MNF game, and they have something of a "room" where you can be largely separated from the rest of the group, which should be managable on any given Wednesday.
Given the frequency of my visits, I know the manager there if it's an agreed location. Chris

I agree O'learys is a nice place. It gets crowded during tourist season, but I would think Wed evenings are not that crowded. If it is crowded, we can always just move a little. I know at Capt Eddies that a few or more said they couldnt hear me talking. Sorry about that, but I didnt know, as no one spoke up to say that to me. It was kind of noisy with the fans, music and a bigger than ever thought of crowd. So if all agree, O'Learys? Next month we should do a South place, so that all have equal driving over the long run. Southern folks think of a suitable place. On another note, Lynn and I are heading down to the Marquesas for 8 days of diving, and hopefully good water, weather and shooting. We sleep and eat on the boat, while anchored in Mooney Harbor-South entrance to Marquesas inside. Will have pics at the meeting. Hopefully the Bullsharks will not be as thick as last time. I was thinking of doing something planned-gumshoe-Chris, wants to talk about pros and cons of an affiliated club, bylaws that an existing club has etc. I was thinking of demoing tying bands, as shaft-Cory wants some new bands and wishbones. He uses hard stainless steel so I will do those and demo spectra cord ones too. I'll show all the tools and techniques such as knot tying.

O'Leary's is just South of Marina Jacks, on the bayfront in Sarasota. It is at the intersection of US 41(Tamiami Trail South) and Ringling Blvd. Basicly just West of that intersection. It is a huge Tiki Hut, many tables etc. Right on the water. Should be nice. Parking is no problem as there are many spots. Huge parking area. Go to Marina Jacks and it is at South end of parking lot, on the point of land called Island Park. Cant miss it. Overlooks the sailboat anchorage.

Unfortunately, I will be out of town.
As for Caring,Understanding,Nurturing,Tolerant who is this referring to, certainly not the person I am thinking of. Perhaps ME |

OK, Weds meeting was nice but not many showed. I think 12. It was the 1st night of the Rays World Series, and I know some of you were at the game. Plus others had other obligations at the last minute. I should have double checked the TV guide. Chris-gumshoe brought a powerpoint type computer projecter and screen, and he showed some UW video and pics and Ben Batemans-fishkilla, 2007 Hell Divers Rodeo UW spearing vid. I demoed band tying for hard SS wishbones, SS cable and Spectra cord bridels. I tried to go slow with the knot demos. Lots of hands on! And lots of good talking in general. O'Leary's was very hospitable, and Sam- Trails End, who is dockmaster at Marina Jacks, contacted the manager-Jim, and they donated $75 for food/beer, which went quick-Thank You Sam and Jim. I thanked Jim, and we bought more beer and food, so I hope next time we can have a bigger crowd there. Got to talk to a couple guys who I have not personally met prior. Next month- November, lets try to find a down South location. I know lots of you live in Venice, North Port, and Port Charlotte, so if you can come up with a good location, either PM me or post here. Another important thing, I need everyone who wants to be a member/come to meetings etc, PM me with screen name, email and phone, plus your actual name. At the last meeting I really needed the screen names and didnt get any! I didnt even look at the 2 pages of names until I got home and saw it. We need to set up our private room/website, and cant do it until we have a full roster. Plus as you have heard many emails bounced back. This is probably from handwriting was not legible. So PM me all info. Off topic, I have been real busy, with house renovations, getting kitchen torn out, house is a disaster, and getting ready for an addition to be added on, just as soon as kitchen is done. Constantly either buying appliances, windows, doors, cabinets, etc, and moving all belongings into shipping container in back yard, feels like we are camping. Plus still trying get out diving and trips to the Keys, and working, and regular upkeep on house. So I want to thank Chris Shaffer for helping send out emails. Please PM your info to me, Thanks, Steve.

I agree. I was just trying to make the driving equal, as many live from Venice-South. Yes, we have been in contact with Capt Eddies and we will have more there. If nothing comes up soon, then we will take that. Just trying for some input. I really dont know anything South of Venice.

So far I have 33 screen name/user name total for SFP. I gleaned my PMs, and past posts/replies to posts about the club. But we had 48 signatures, which would be 51 total, since 3 of us already knew our names/screen names, from the Capt Eddie's meeting. So if some not-so-frequent-come-to-the-meeting folks, who havent responded to me by PM or posting to the several posts about the club, could PM me info, I would appreiciate that. I dont have Ryan Yahraus, Jason Mashke, Renee ?, Stewy Daneman, Marty Martel, and a few others actual user name(proper caps, spelling etc), if they do go on here. So if you all could PM me, and I will call too, I will get our private website/room up and running on here. But I need a full roster first. I dont want to leave anyone out.

Steve,
Haven't met you, but would like to join the spearfishing group in Sarasota. I don't have a boat, just a kayak. Just getting back into spearing after a long hiatus. I have two sons, 11 and 14, both certified, who also want to learn spearing. I have a couple of friends, also with certified sons, who want to get into spearing also. Will in Sarasota 321-5001 |

Will, I've got you down. Good to have some young guns. We have a list, and after next meeting, which I have to come up with a spot for next week soon, we will put in for our private club spot here on SFP. We have Capt Eddies mentioned, any other places down in and/or South of Venice? Trying to get the Southern end some close-to-home-places. Anybody got any ideas? On the young folks topic, we all should try to introduce the youngsters-once they are old enough, and have some experience, to spearfishing. My son is 18, and since he was 5 or 6 he was snorkleing with me, and later using my 30+ year old 35" Scubapro Sea Hornet-that name was pulled after the first year of course, and then they named both the Panther, but one was 35" and one was 45". We still have it, but he is in fire school(following dads footsteps) and will get certified when he is done, and do some real spearfishing. Chris-gumshoe has 2 boys age 8 and 10, and the 10 year old has been snorkleing and scuba diving. He has his own polespear and has hit some grunts! So if any of you have young ones, we should get a summer shallow water trip together so they can learn, and get the bug! Once it gets warm again. Everyone let me know if you have a nice place for a meeting, on here. Thanks.
