Format
Targeting species with dominately red coloring, get it... you'll be "Seeing Red" at the weigh-in.This is a tournament designed to shootable by almost all spearos, greenhorn or old hand. The target species, time of year and format were chosen to give anyone with a boat that go 10 miles from the pass a shot at placing well overall. Fish may be taken from sunrise on Friday to anytime on Sunday as long as they can make the weigh-in line by 4pm. At 4:01pm the line is closed and only the people in line will be permitted to finish weighing their fish.

The tournament will have a several fish categories in which you may earn points; Red Snapper, Red Grouper, Hogfish, and Misc Snapper (cubera, mangrove, mutton, and lane).

Trips to the prize table will be awarded in this order; Highest total points, biggest fish, biggest red snapper, biggest red grouper, biggest hogfish, biggest misc snapper, 2nd highest points, 3rd highest points, 4th highest points, ect, ect.... until all the prizes are awarded.

Best shooter and best boat will be determined on a point score basis where each pound of fish is a point. For example a diver shoots and weighs a 9.3# red snapper, 6.2# mangrove, 13.4# red grouper and a 4.8# hogfish. That diver would have 33.7 points. "Best Boat" would be determined by averaging the score of all divers shooting on board and requires 3 divers at a minimum to be eligible.

All fish must be gutted before they can be weighed, please do this on the boat and not in the parking lot!

Only 2 fish can be weighed per category. (Fish entered in biggest fish do not count anywhere else, its called strategy!) So there is a maximum of 160 points possible in theory. Although a score of 70 would be outstanding in reality.

Ties go to the person who weighs in earlier.

The weigh-master has final authority over what is weighed and what isn't. If your fish is "fishy" or looks like it has been on ice or frozen for many days it will not be weighed. No appeals and no whining.

Divers are limited to their certified depths.

All waters are open provided fish can be in line to be weighed by 4pm on Sunday.

All fish must be taken legally for which ever jurisdiction they are harvested in.

We have decided to add a lionfish bonus to the cumulative point total of each shooter. The purpose is to incentivize the community to help remove, report and turn in this invasive species for study. 1 bonus point per lionfish turned in will be added to your score. No max limit, go get em!!!

Sounds like a great format Pat. If wife is off I may see if I can bum a ride and come your way.

We had a great turnout last year, way more Tally and Big Benders than we thought would show up. Obviously the best part is the Party. Lots of shrimp and fresh filets and probably too much of our "Steel Slinger Juice" and draft beer will be consumed. We're giving away a week on our next BlackBeard's cruise, an Aeris Elite T-3 Computer and several spearguns for the top guys but lots of mid level stuff too and we haven't started asking for donations yet but we will next week. I'm guessing we will end up with a table worth between $5-7k by the time we are weighing fish!

Had a great time last year, can’t wait to do it again. The prize table was great as was the food and drinks.

It looks like the whole "Ceviche" crew is in. You guys shooting out of Wakulla/Franklin counties, or are you going to trailer over?

Probably Wakulla / Franklin but hopefully the grounds if conditions are good enough. Are you guys going to be in it this year? There were some monster RS weighed in last year from the PC area.

We're trailering over to Carrabelle on day one and then driving back that night to try and fill our red snapper and red groupers back in PC. Hopefully we can figure out the places you guys hide those hogfish!

Hey Pat,

They hide them in the middlegrounds! Sounds like you have a good plan together, should be the best of both worlds w/ Grouper, Snapper and Hogs! Wish I could shoot this tournament with Jamie (Muddy Waters) and Ben but I am going to be in the Keys diving the Atocha that weekend!

Hopefully the vis will clear up out of Carrabelle before the tournament. Last weekend It was less than 10ft on bottom most spots we dove out past 60ft. It is a little better in shallower but still not good. Pat we hide those hogs in the bay, everybody just runs right past them

We are adding a lionfish bonus to both this tournament and our year round Calcutta. each lionfish equals a bonus point, no max limit on bonus points for the tournament or the year round Calcutta.

Save some of those "Bay Hogs" for us. Noles 97 may hook us up with his ride so we may see you in the grounds--wish he could make it but it doesn't suck to get invited to dive the Atocha. What were the winning scores, fish last year? Any Freedive category?

Big Fish- Also John Pipkin 29.46 pounds!
Red Snapper- Troy Brenham 22.54 pounds!
Red Grouper- Clay Galbreath 19.24 pounds!
Hogfish- Karen Williams 15.88 pounds!
Misc Snapper- Clint Iles 10.22 pounds!

Best Boat- Deep Sea Bandits (2 years running!)

Karen had the biggest hog at 15.88 lbs. Chris and Dan weighed big fish in every category and placed at the top of the pack. The guys from PC had the biggest Snapper by a long shot. We didn’t find any snapper or red grouper with any size in the grounds and our go-to near shore spots were blacked out vis. wise last year.

Gotcha. Chris and Dan maybe diving with us on Noles 97 Contender. We're kicking around a couple of game plans. That was a strong Hog that y'all weighed. Looking forward to seeing "Team Ceviche" again.

Looks like we have added a freediving category since so there have been a few requests in that direction. Hopefully we'll be able to grow this category in the coming years.

Safety/Info brief is tomorrow night at 6pm. We will be covering the format, rules (obey the law and don't get hurt) and letting everyone see the prize table ~$6k retail value!

Remember that we added lionfish this year as a point booster, 1 lionfish equals 1 extra point no limit on max number.

Be in line for the weigh-in by 3pm on Sunday or you don't get to weigh your fish. The party will go on from 3pm till the kegs are dry. Contestants get free food and drink and guests and get a $10 meal ticket from the shop. There will be plenty of food and drink.

I think there are a few people on the facebook page looking for shooters. I hope everyone can find a ride that needs one!
