Sorry bro, feeling a little sarcastic

I really believe I could take any fat ass couch potato and put him/her through a meditation course, give them the proper equipment, and teach some basic technique and they'd be able to keep up with your average navy diver.

It's all in your head, is what I'm trying to say. Learn to relax and dive

Default Work work work

Get in good shape. Take a class. Relax more in the water. Dive with a friend and set realistic goals and the more time you spend in the water the longer you can hold your breath.
Get in good cardio shape is probably #1 though.
Run. Climb stairs. Swim. The more in shape you are the better your resting heart rate will be and the easier it will be for you to relax and make those dives without burning up oxygen.
Dive Safe and with a buddy especially when you are trying to get better.
It is just as easy to drown in 3 feet of water in your pool as it is in 100 feet in the ocean,
