Let me know what you think. My resources were limited. I'll make changes for my second one...if necessary.
I used: 75' of clear 1/4" Nylon tubing from Lowes 6"-8" of 3/8" clear Nylon tubing from Lowes (few inches at each end) 300# clear mono 3/8" heat shrink sleeves 2 Sampo 300# swivels clear silicone crimps crimping tool and I think that is about it... oh and a Bic lighter I have 2 tuna clips from Jim at The Spearfishing Store that I will attach when I have time

Looks pretty sweet! But I would venture to guess that the mono is pretty much useless, because the clear tubing itself probably has a breaking strength much higher than 300 lbs!

Thanks. Yeah. That is what I was thinking but I am stuck in Dallas with very limited resources. I decided one night I wanted to make one and then went ahead and made it the next day. I will see how it holds up... I am going to use a breakaway with it so worst case is I will lose a spear. Think it should handle some dolphin, ling, and wahoo though which is all I need it for.
We shall see this summer. I have a trip planned for Hawaii, needless to say I will probably buy one for that trip. Omer has a reasonably priced nice one.

If you want, you can use the RIT clothes dye from the supermarket to dye the tubing any color you want. Looks nice!

I did it before I assembled the float line. Just sink the vinyl tubing in a pot of nearly boiling water and dye and let it soak in there for about a half an hour or so. The longer it sits, the richer the color will be. I used a dark blue and if you don,t let it sit long enough, you get a clear, ocean blue color which looks cool but I didn't want to ba able to see the core. If you let it sit too long, the blue becomes almost black. Which is fine. I haven't used any other colors yet, but the vynil takes a dye quite well. When you take the tube out of the dye, lay it out straight in the yard and run cold water through it and around it to rinse the dye out. If you lay it out straight, it won't have the memory of the coiled shape. Before you run the core through it it's a good idea to use a shop vac or air compressor to dry out the inside of the tube.

Its too late now but you could have squirted orange spray paint in the tubing prior to crimping the ends. Should work good though.
