Default Dogs

Looking into possibly getting a Weimaraner whose a year old. Has had alot of training (house broken, crate trained, commands) and if I pick him up I can continue to get free training for he and I. I met him today and he wants to be very active outside as to be expected. I don't have any plans for him to be a hunting dog. I know he'll need some good exercise.

Does anyone have one? Do they calm down a little after two years old? I've read that they are calm inside the house. Can anyone verify this?

Cool dogs, with even cooler looking eyes.
Get him. Owning any pet comes with a number of responsibilities, but in my opinion, dog ownership is well worth it.

And a weimaraner is a real dog. You can actually do stuff with the dog.
My english bulldog Charlie, RIP, was an extremely cool dog and a best / loyal friend. (And he was an awesome tool for meeting girls.) But he had the stamina of a sloth, and was pretty damn lazy.
I have a golden now, and she accompanies me on a lot of activities.

I had a friend with one, the dog was like a 12 year old on a 18 hour meth binge all it's life.

I don't know if their all like that but the trainer who was working with it told them their was nothing he could do.

The trainer was an ex military dog trainer and had amazing credentials.

If you're active the weimaraner is a great breed. Smart dogs. If you're cool, calm, collective and in control the dog will be fine. If you're not..you're toast. I have a friend with two. He runs them while riding his bike around the golf course. Fast dogs to for running down squirels and other prey.

I have a few friends with them...THey are all active outdoors families and they seem to do fine with the dogs. THe dogs accompany them on the lake boat, 4 wheeler riding and numerous camping trips per year. But they are a VERY active dog, lots of energy. But as with about any dogs with tons of energy, if you let them out to exercise they crash out at the end of a day just like a child. They seem to be a very smart dog and can be trained, but you got to establish who is da man and who is the dog. If you let them have there way they will be hard headed as hell. But if you let them know who da boos is, they will be great dogs.

I really like the dog. He's smart and he's a real dog but if he needs to be heavily exercised everyday that might be a problem. I'm confident I'd be able to kee up with him but occasionally I have to go out of town for a night or two for work plus some overnight Grounds trips. I don't know if Jess would be able to work out the dog like he needs to be on those days. I don't want the dog to then take it out on the house when I'm gone. So that's gonna be something I really need to think about then.

If you done work it into the ground it will DESTROY your house. The friend I talked about above had to replace the door trim multiple times, carpet, couch and a few cabinets. Went out of town fro a couple days and the dog sitter didn't run the dog before going to work. 8 hours later it looked like a pack of pissed off hobbit thugs had gone bat shit in his house.

I'm sure with the proper exercise and training it "could" be a great dog. Lots of people have them and love-em.

I have had two Weims and love them (I have one now). They are very good dogs but need a consistant schedule of exercise and training. They are one of the few dogs that you can hunt and still let em' be house dogs. Just remember...YOU are the boss...if you allow them to think that they are...you are in for problems. (no comments here Dave...lol).
Here is a pic of Zoe... and the crew.

I have two Weims and love both of them to death. They do require a lot of exercise and if you do not find them something to do they will find trouble. I have put both of mine through obedience training and keep both of them in check. If you are a dog lover and not a dog owner you don't need Weims because they need discipline and guidance and they'll so you all the love in the world but if you spoil them you'll have nothing but problems from them. Good Luck.
