Maybe it'll change with time, but these things are dumb as bricks in my experience.
Three words: point.blank.range. Andrew

been seeing alot of them in the gulf. killed two last weekend. they normally dont move but it sucks shooting a 52" gun at point blank range into a rock he is up against, need some type of gig to just slip on the shaft and gig them.

I was looking at cheap paralyzer tip that I think could be bored out and threaded. Sorta like a putting on a powerhead.

I have not had the honor of shooting a lionfish. But why do you shoot them and not just stab it.
I was in the Cayman Islands two weeks ago and they where using a 2' pole spear to kill the Lionfish. Seemed to work great cause it isn't like they try to get away very fast.

I've killed lots of them. Try shooting one of those little bastards with a 60" Deathstick.
![]() ![]() I've tried gigging them with a spare shaft......not the easiest thing to do. Point blank range is probably the best I've done so far. Their spines are like a lobster, as soon as you barely touch one(with a spear or otherwise) they move like a rocket in the water. They can move 2 feet in the blink of an eye. I usually try and shoot as close as possible, without touching a spine, and without hitting the backstop before the shaft leaves the gun. Or, if nothing else, get past the full stretch of the bands so the gun don't kick back and hit you in nuts. After shooting, I just scrape them off by pulling on the tip of the shaft and rub them off on the nearest piece of whatever will push that little fkker off the end of my shaft Most of the time I don't have too much time to goof with them. So, for me, efficiency is the key. I'm not trying to bring them home and eat them, just want them dead. I can't afford to carry another piece of gear (special pole spear) just to kill them, so....I learn to kill them with a cannon.

I made some little pole spears, kind of like the lionfish tamer that is being sold in some stores. it is has a bigger hand grip then the lionfish tamer. and using a pole spear you dont have to worry about ruining the tip on your gun, will try to post a photo later.

Just shoot them and grab them by the lip to pull them off the shaft...
