Default Spearfishing, stringer question.

Hi everyone,
I am somewhat new to spearfishing and I was wondering, after i shoot a fish what is the best way to put the fish on the stringer. Also what if the fish is still alive on the stringer, will the fish bite you, or do you have to use a kill spike?

Before you remove a speared fish from your shaft, you should open your stringer and push it through the fishes eyes or through it gills and out its mouth. Some fish like triggerfish, should always be strung through the gills and mouth in order to prevent a painful bite. After the fish is strung then you take your shaft out.

Stringing fish through the eyes normally will pacify a fish, however it not uncommon to brain a fish with your dive knife if it is extremely lively before stringing. A fish's throat makes a useful hand hold to control the fish while braining, but be careful you don't accidentally impale your hand.

Some of the stringers have several inches of steel available to start stringing BEFORE you even open the stringer to shove the fish on to the hoop and close. BTW if don't string through the eyes and the fish isn't stoned, you can have the fish swim off, looking like a punk rock AJ.
