Default Cressi Comanche 60 speargun repairs/issues

    Hi All,

I have a Cressi Comanche 60 Speargun that I bought in April for a May Spearfishing trip. It is pretty small and relatively weak, but I got it because it was cheap ($120) and so that I could have a speargun that I would be able to take with me on a plane as normal checked baggage. I live in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and usually get to visit a beach/spearfishing area twice a year, so it is hard to justify an expensive speargun and the oversized checked baggage fees($100 each way).

I have had some problems with my Comanche, though. First, on its 3rd day of use, the metal wishbone broke at one of the rivet hinge pins. I was able to temporarily repair this with some thin bailing wire that I found outside of the condo that we were staying at in Belize. I have since repaired it with 1.8mm Spectra 600lb. wishbone line. Then, on the last day, the tether that connects the spear gun to the spear snapped. I have not yet repaired this and am wondering what the best method of repair is. Could I use 130lb test Monofilament fishing line? That's what it looks like was on there before. Where can I get the crimps to secure the line onto its self so that I dont have to tie bulky knots?

Also, on this Cressi, The tip of the speargun has a hole that appears to be designed to accommodate an additional loop of rubber. Additionally, the spear has 2 cuts that appear that it can accommodate a second rubber loop. Is this what these are for? if not, what are they for?

If anyone has any thoughts on another gun that would still allow me to check it as normal checked baggage, but would be more powerful, I would love to hear about it.

Ill be headed to Los Barrilles, Baja California, Mexico in a couple of weeks, so if you have any advice about spearfishing down there, I'd love to hear it!

    Thanks in advance,
    Louis G.

You can get the crimps/ferrules at any hardware store typically.

We stock all the materials you will need for repair, like monofilament, crimps, bands, wishbones etc.

I'm not sure if the shaft and gun can accomodate two bands. If you want to spend a little more money, you can get similar sized MAKO Predator which can be confgured with two bands, 3 or 400 lb monofilament and shark fin tab shaft etc. I more robust gun for not much more than your original investment. Free shipping in the US too.

Thanks for the good advice. I actually emailed Isabel at Cressi and she sent me a bunch of mono and the crimps. She was very nice and friendly and didnt charge me anything. The comanche 60 is pretty short/weak, so I ended up getting a lightly used Wettie 120 speargun that is very nice.

    Thanks,
    Louis
