nice dude,
I am jones'en for some elk hunting.
What part of wyoming are you hunting?
I have spent some time west of Casper, deer/antelope hunting, but had a hard time with access. I had a sweet deal with this one landowner, but someone else screwed me over and i lost the deal.

I'll be hunting in area 7 which is around the Douglas area in the Medicine Bow NF. Here's a brief report from the weekend.
Sat morn Me, Lenny, and Jeromy were in our hunting area at daylight and right away saw three bulls. All three of them were over 350 with one bumpin the 370-380 mark. Needless to say we were stoked.(I have a cow tag and Lenny and Jeromy both have bull tags) When we first saw them they were damn near a mile away so we closed as fast as we could and got in front of them when the were moving into a draw thats full of Aspen and Cedars. We started cow calling but they were tight lipped with absolutely no bugleling or barking. They just arent rutting yet so that was kind of a wash so we decided to pull out so as not to bump them for next weekend. We saw one pissy little calf that looked like she was lost but didnt see any cows so we decided to hit another spot on Sunday to see if they were fired up yet. On the way up and out, we saw one of the big boys leave the canyon from about 300 yards away. What a PIG!!! Rifle season woulda been nice cause we'd have been done.
Sunday morning we hit a different spot and right away had three bulls in front of us at about 10 yds. Wind was wrong and we got busted after a couple of minutes. We moved on a little ways and did a little cow calling and bugled a couple times and actually got a response so we moved on them and wound up about 150 yds from a herd of 30 or so cows and 5 or 6 bulls. One of them a real stud. He's that solid 380 everyone wants but as usually happens they got scared off by this little Mulie Buck that just about stepped on me lol. I did have a cow at 41 yards but didnt stick her because she had a real little calf with her. Thats huntin I guess.A few Bulls were screaming here but they still aint hot yet. Next weekends cooler temps and the rain this week should have them ready to play by Saturday so I'll keep ya posted.

Nice!
I found the bulls really get going around 9-11. I used to hunt alot, but now i am family man, and only get to go out west once a year. I used to hunt in the Powder river area on a big ranch. Lots of deer, antelope, and a few elk. I have been putting in for tags in Wy. for almost everything for a couple years.
I'm sure iI've got enough to draw for a decent deer area, but am waiting for a "hunt-a-palozia" tri-fecta slamfest and go all out and get them all. Kind of like the movie the endless summer, but the endless fall.

Keep me posted and let me know how you do.
Good luck.

Bosshog- We have leftover deer and antelope tags available in most areas around here. We own 26k acres so it's cool not to be able to have to worry about a place for deer and goats. Nonresident elk tags are a pain in the ass to draw though. lol. Area 7 for elk is almost sure fire.

Not real sure where Elk Mt is but Im hunting just out of Douglas,WY

I have hunted a place just north of the pathfinder resivor. up horse creek.
We saw some nice elk. one in the 330's and shot our goats and deer there. I would like to go there again, but access is tough. Unit 7.... just south of casper, I remember driving along the hwy. near there, and thinking that this area would be good for whitetails. It looks like the timbered creek bottoms would hold deer.
How hard is it to get elk tags there, as a group? everywhere else I want to go has a 3-4 year preferance point.
Whats the cost...rough cost, and do you have an outfitter license, landowner tags?

2-3 year on prefs for non-residents for Elk. Deer and Antelope are easier with tags being left over after the draw every year. Yes, we areLicensed Outfitters(Blowing Feather Outfitters LLC) Non Res elk cost around $550.00 Deer around $350.00 and Antelope are right at $300.00 only other licensing required is a conservation stamp for $12.50 We have landowner tags(we own 26 thousand acres in Lance Creek) but we typically keep them for family. We do offer combo deer and antelope hunts if anyone is interested im me for details.

Plenty of Bulls have been in range but I havnt been able to put the sneak on a cow yet
Later,
Chris
