Where in WNC?
Hey, everybody.
Just thought I'd take a minute and say hello.
I shot my first fish...a mullet...on the gulf coast of Florida a few weeks ago.
I loved it! We were just horsing around in shallow water, but I separated from the group and went hunting. I was freediving with a short Mares pneumatic gun.
I was pretty happy to get that mullet! LOL!
Most of my time in the water is in freshwater due to where I live. I figured I wouldn't get to do much underwater hunting.
But, I read some regs and discovered there are 12 counties within a few hours drive that allow spearfishing for non-game fish.
I ordered a JBL 5' polespear and a JBL Paralyzer tip to start off.
Non-game fish in NC include carp, catfish, suckers, and, believe it or not...tilapia! Further research shows tilapia have been caught in Lake Norman.
Lake Norman is in a county that allows spearfishing, too.
Kind of a rambling intro, huh?
I look forward to reading and learning more about spearing and have really enjoyed the site so far.
Where in WNC?
I live in Macon County. It's where NC, GA, and SC all come together.
Welcome from the other side of NC.

Many of my spearo buddys started shooting mullet. It becomes very addictive. Welome![]()
I was hoping you could tell me where you found the regulations for spear fishing in NC. I live in Havelock near Cherry Point air station and I would love to skin dive with my hawaiin sling. I've never speared any fish before and I don't want to get myself into trouble with the conservation department. Any advice/direction would be greatly appreciated.
