Cool Another guy from Tampa

Hey guys, The names Chuck and I've live around Tampa my whole life. always been in to fishing and recently gotten into diving and spearfishing. I am a novice for sure but have picked up alot of great tips from lurking around here and just wanted to introduce myself. thanks for all the great info and I look forward to meeting some of you guys and maybe doing some diving with you.

Hey man I'm a noobie in Sarasota with no boat as well. Is there anywhere that you can just swim to a spot in the water, or do you have to be on a boat while spearfishing?

Welcome guys. If you fill in your location it will help you get rides later since people from this area will know where you are located, long after this post is archived.

There's a reef about 200 yards off the beach in Bradenton. I've had good luck getting hogs and flounders off there if I can't get a ride out to deeper water. Search for Spanish Rocks. It tops out at maybe 25' deep and the vis is hit or miss.

thanks guys, I have hit the rocks over at the south side of the skyway bridge and did ok, a few sheepheads and such. hey let me ask is it ok to shoot mullett? its hard but man theres some really big ones over my way.
Hey DevilDawg, remember if your beach diving, you must be 100 yards away from roads, bridges beaches ect. but I have found that if I'm early in the am enough I dont have any problums. also theres a couple reefs just off the cokeno beach around long boat key.

Default St Pete newbie

Hello all, name is Paul and i've spearfished in Hawaii and the Philippine Islands when i was younger but haven't done so since wife said no. Got rid of wife recently and am ready to get back into the sport. I will be attending the St Pete open tournament this weekend just as a spectator and meet people who can help me get started again. It has been over 20 years since i last spearfished and very psyched to start a new hobby. I have a boat and welcome anyone to join me into this new and exciting sport.
