Default New guy looking for a guide!

My friend and I are new to spear fishing and would love for someone who is proficient at free diving and spear fishing to show us the ropes.

A little about us. 21/20 years old. Both firefighters and in the military.
We both live very close to MacDill AFB, South Tampa. (Willing to travel)

Neither of us have gear or much experience. Both are strong swimmer and have a fast learning curve. Will pay accordingly for your time/resources.

Please personal message me or e-mail me at johnsonjx24@yahoo.com

Thanks guys!

Default New to the sport

Hey guys,
I was wondering how you were getting on with the sport and if you were successful in finding a spearo to take you out? If you were looking for some tips you could check out this post I have written for people who are new to the sport here: Fancy spearfishing? What you need to know this is a good little intro article (although I feel i need to add more to it in recent years) there are also lots of other articles and advice on spearfishing on the same site so feel free to have a good look around. Also I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the sport.

Happy Hunting fellow spearos

Craig

I'm not a freediver by any means but my advice would be to first learn the proper freediving techniques before trying to complicate things by shooting fish. You may want to look at an FII class. When it comes to learning how to shoot fish, see if you can get to one of Kevin's (Spear One on here) classes. While Kevin does not teach freediving, he can teach you guys about shooting fish.

If you don't learn where to properly shoot fish, you could just go with the typical freediver shot placement of an ass or meat shot.

(joking............................somewhat)

Yea you're right, cause I can't remember how many stories of the big one that a scuba diver stoned but got away.

I can hear it now.

Diver 1: So i was leisurely strolling down this ledge and this huge (insert big fish type here) came out from under this ledge and I took the shot and stoned him.

Diver 2: oh yea? Where is he?

Diver 1: well he got away.

Diver 2: yea that happened to me too the other day.

I vaguely remember your first Freedive shot Black...... Maybe it's more the shooter and less the type of diving they are doing.
