Default New Spearman new in South Tampa

    Hey All,
I'm glad to meet the group and have this fine resource to skim through when I should be working. My experiences are few with shooting fish but I have been scuba diving since 2005. Once in the keys with a pull spear and an old gun....The single hog fish was nice and i somehow avoided shallow water blackout.
I've collected a number of sheepshead from atop a paddle board in the shallows in Brevard county. I've been reading up on the Gandy Bridge and would like to tackle that at some point. Maybe shadow an old timer out there and see how it's done. Anyways, looks like a great group. See you around!

Welcome bud... and I've been told to avoid Gandy in the summer when the bulls and hammerheads come in to mate, but otherwise good hunting grounds...

Not only do the sharks get thick but the visibility drops too. Typically on a good day you won't get more than a foot or two around the gandy during summer. I used to do it more a few years back in highschool but I save it for the colder months now when the sheepshead stack up, the water is clear, and the sharks are scarce. The bay is a lot clearer around the skyway though so if you're anxious you can always head over there. I've pulled some nice sheep and decent inshore hogfish off the skyway this time of year also I believe gag opens in a month or so and theyre in the area too. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Sharks have never bothered me at Gandy, or at any of the bridges in the area in fact. They want nothing to do with humans, so generally, as long as you keep your mind in the right place, and dont freak yourself out, these spots are a lot of fun to hit.
