Thumbs up NC Spear-friendly charters and shops

    NC

    Wilmington:
Scuba Now* Frequent spearfishing charters. The shop teaches a spearfishing class.
Aquatic Safaris, spearo friendly shop and charters, crew boats. (spearing allowed offseason and offshore >28 miles only, not recommended during summer months)

    Topsail:
    G&S Sea Searchers* (910) 890-9400

    Morehead City/Atlantic Beach:
Atlantic Beach Diving* 6-pack on a 44' Henriques Sportfish

Olympus Dive: Shop and charters (crew boats). They have a few trips just for spearing and lobstering early in the season. New management: policy is that they won't allow spearing if a shark is seen-even on spearfishing charters. Considering there are sharks on every wreck, they can no longer be recommended.

    Beaufort:
Discovery Diving: spearo-friendly shop. Spearfishing allowed on crew boats. Captain Leroy's 6-pack runs spearing charters. Hosts a spearfishing tournament. Blanket fishing license.

George Frazier, Beyond Freediving*: Classes and freediving charters.

    N of Beaufort, Harker's Island
Poseydon Charters* 6-pack spearfishing. Fast boat

    Hatteras:
Dive Hatteras* 6-pack on a big boat. Includes bluewater freedive spearfishing.

    Inland:

    Raleigh:
Carolina Dive Center: spearo-friendly shop. Occasionally sets up spearo-only trips with NC and SC operators.

    Greenville:
Pamlico Divers Shop that offers spearing gear, sets up charters and has a spearfishing class.

    Clayton:
Air Hogs Scuba Shop has spearfishing gear and a spearfishing class.

I've been out with almost all these guys. If you want more info, feel free to PM me. * I haven't been out with this shop yet

Also feel free to PM me for other shops, charters and I can edit as necessary.

For someone to be on this list is easy- be a spearo-friendly operation. Meaning, that you encourage spearfishermen/spearfishing. The only way off is if that changes (that has happened too). As far as fitness as to if you should dive with an outfit or not, feel free to post in this part of the forum and ask for opinions- you'll probably get a lot of thumbs up, and you may get some thumbs down (and you'll get PMs too). Every operator has had good days and bad. Personally, I find personal recommendations far more worthy than just a list of operators, so do your research- especially if you're from out of town planning a trip.

This is a relatively old post - I'm wondering if most of the information is still accurate? We're interested in spearfishing near Carolina Beach/Wilmington in July - any suggestions and/or recommendations are appreciated!

It's old- but I keep it up to date with any new information I get.

We're trying to get out and spear TOMORROW near Wilmington.

We were supposed to go with someone but he's MIA at the last minute. I've called two spearfishing charters that I could find on the internet but no luck. Anyone going out tomorrow and need two competent and skilled hunters to fill spots?!

Sasquatch - Grateful if you could add George Frazier who owns and runs beyond freediving out of Beaufort. Does AIDA training and charters for freedive spearfishing.
Just got training and went fishing with him, had a blast. Duncan.

The weather is getting better and I'm dying to get out and shoot some fish. Is there anywhere to freedive and spear fish off the coast of NC or anyone who knows someone who is planning a trip that needs an extra person to split fuel costs? I'm dying to get out. It's been too long.
